Our trip aboard the Golden Princess from Seattle to Juneau to Skagway to Ketchikan to Victoria and back to Seattle. It was a wonderful trip, especially the ride on the White Pass and Yukon Scenic Railway out of Skagway. I would highly recommend this trip.

Amtrak's "Pere Marquette", #371, crashed into the rear end of a Norfolk Southern freight train in Chicago on November 30, 2007. 51 of the 187 people aboard were injured, 5 seriously, all of which were crew members. The cause of the accident is not yet known on December 1, 2007.

Last weekend I enjoyed a trip to the famous Izaak Walton Inn near Waterton Glacier Park, in Essex, Montana. The trip their aboard the Empire Builder was great, and the Inn was even better. There was Great Northern memorabilia everywhere, as well as fellow railfans. There were many great hiking trails as well, but the best part was the trains, lots of them. Essex is a helper station, with SD40-2 sets coupling up with freights for the steep climb up Marias Pass. If you like trains and/or the outdoors, you should really consider a trip to the Izaak Walton Inn.

Jake's getting pretty good at the trumpet, and had an excellent year end concert at Cascade Middle School in Auburn, WA. He has a new band teacher this year, and the difference is amazing. The 7th and 8th graders put on a good show too, and all three grades played selections from "High School Musical" at the end. Part 2 of 2, more jazz band, 8th graders "Military Escort", and a combined finale performance of "High School Musical".

This steam double header with SP #4449 and UP #844 from Tacoma to Everett and back was my best steam excursion ever! I would like to thank the Barriger Library, Union Pacific Railroad, BNSF Railway, Friends of the 4449, Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation, the Washington State Historical Society, and Conductor Reed Jackson for making this trip possible. A coach seat was $299, and Dome $399. Double headed steam on a Class I mainline was truly priceless! Being that this was the same day as my 30th birthday made the trip even more memorable.

April 30th, 2007, was free transit day in the Bay Area of California due to the partial collapse of the San Francisco-Oakland highway. Many people took transit to work who wouldn't have otherwise. Meanwhile, tourists such as myself enjoyed free rides on BART, VTA light rail, Caltrain, and some almost free fun on the San Jose Beach Boardwalk Giant Coaster, and the Amtrak San Joaquins.

A BNSF grain train passes through my back yard on April 21, 2007. Well, not really my back yard, but less than a mile away. The location is the Auburn, WA "M" Street crossing. The empty grain train is going from TEMCO/Cargill in Tacoma back to the midwest to refill. Empty grain trains comprise most of the traffic on the BNSF Stampede Pass line.

A family vacation aboard Princess Cruises Caribbean Princess. This is one of Princess' newest ships, built in 2004 in Italy, and loaded with amenities. Also seen are the Carnival Triumph in Sint Maarten, and the Holland America Westerdam in St. Thomas. It was a very enjoyable trip, and I hope to do it again sometime.
