Here are a couple of BEAM spider bots that I built to give to my dad and uncle for fathers day. The solar cell charges a capacitor to a certain voltage and then triggers a pager motor to jiggle it around a bit. BEAM stands for Biology, Aesthetics, Engineering and Mechanics. This is a case-mod that I did on an old Fuso Fish Finder that I bought at Value Village. It is being used as an MP3 client and picture viewer in my living room. btw- the spec is wrong at the end of the vid. It is a 600mhz processor. whatever... its in a fish finder!! The music is something called "Tusk" I played and recorded a few years back. The drums are from a Neil Conti drum CD, everything else is me.
