Jallikattu or Taming of the bull is a traditional sport conducted in most of the villages Tamilnadu after the harvest festival of Pongal. The most famous village for this sport is Alanganallur near Madurai. In this sport the bull is let loose from an enclosure with a prize tied to its horns, into a corridor. As soon as the bull comes out of the enclosure, all the brave young men competing, try to tame the bull and remove the prize from its horns. The bull that runs through the corridor without being tamed becomes famous in the village and their owners highly respected. Palamedu near by madurai is also famous for this sport.
