The Cal Payne Project Combine 2 parts jazz, 1 part r&b/groove, and a sprinkle of jam-band improvisation -mix well and serve while HOT and you have the recipe for The Cal Payne Project. Taking into consideration the instrumental nature of the compositions, the chops of the musicians playing them and the improvisational space contained within, it would be easy to call what they play jazz. However, this band and their music defies such strict categorization while drawing their sound from a combination of many genres including r&b, Latin and rock in addition to jazz. The result is a musical style and delivery that is both highly accessible and yet uncompromising. The Cal Payne Project is lead by saxophonist and writer Cal Payne whose fearless yet passionate solos and writing style form the signature sound of the band. This talented group also features Michael Burke on guitar whose lightning-fast riffs and fiery brilliance cut straight to the heart, Curlan Moore on drums whose technical adroitness and creative versatility covers the spectrum from the smooth ambient textures and syncopated rhythms to the hardest driving beats and everything in between and Steve Crumpton on bass who delivers the undeniably smooth and infectious grooves with a seemingly effortless proficiency. Keyboardist and Seattle native, Dan Policar is the newest addition to the group. Dan is a highly capable musician whose diverse musical background includes jazz, r&b and hip hop. The Cal Payne Project was formed on May 2003. Cal and Curlan have been friends since high school and have been playing together off and on ever since. The remaining members became acquainted while playing together at an open jam session in NYC. The chemistry was immediate and unmistakable. Since forming, the band has performed throughout New York City and the Tri-State region for the past year including such venues as The Sugar Bar, Creole, The Rich Forum in Stamford CT, Kenny's Castaways, The Bitter End and The Baggot Inn. With its members residing in New York and New Jersey, The Cal Payne Project has set its goals on extending their reach and fan-base throughout the tri-state region. http://thecalpayneproject.com/ http://www.myspace.com/calpayne

Hailing from East New York, Brooklyn is Ni-sun Akrus. The name itself describes strength and unbridled determination. Born in Honduras, Ni-sun immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of five. My divers background shaped how I live my life and how I make my music. Growing up in the Boulevard Housing Projects helped cultivate Ni-suns talent. By age ten he already performed at local block parties and public school functions. My mother believed I was born to be a prophet. Even as a young man, Ni-suns writing inspired by his keen introspections hovered above the muck and mire of everyday living. I would spit phrases that had dudes in my block like damn this shorty is nice. The years have refined Ni-sun, not only as an artist, but as a man. I have grown and that is what I express in my music, I know what the world holds because the world is what I see- I know what the beat is because the beat is how I breathe... I know what the streets are because the streets are a part of me. Ni-sun has worked hard to establish his name in the industry. In March of 2004, he traveled across the country to perform in front of over nine hundred fans at the West Coast premier party. This was the beginning of his growing west coast following. In the Spring 2005, he was featured on DJ Morefires mix tape, followed by video cameos as seen on BET. Doors are finally opening, I feel like Im hood-rich, the hood definitely supports me and listens to what I have to say, I know my destiny is to become a voice http://www.myspace.com/nisunakrus

TCOOO (Taking Care Of Our Own) is a relatively new and growing reggae label. The company was named TCOOO because of our strong beliefs in the teachings of Marcus Garvey and the importance of self reliance. Rather than creating demos and shopping around for record deals, a group of artists decided to pool their resources together in order to achieve one ultimate goal. Our goal is to spread our music to every corner of the earth. We started out booking studio times to make beats, voice, record and mix until we were able to build our own studio. Our first release was the rhythm driven Any Type War which produced two songs that enjoyed a lot of airplay and major spins in the clubs. The two songs were Party all night by Dre and the controversial Stepping Razor by Bookman which still have people sending us mails even today about the songs comment regarding Colin Powell and the Bush administration. We then release 18 Karat Reggae Gold which the XNews, a leading entertainment paper in Jamaica referred to as a Refreshing, Breath of Fresh Air. The album did very well on Amazon and enjoyed thousands of downloads on sites like ITunes, MSN Music and Yahoo Music. This was also the album that had people calling and writing us that they wanted to hear more from Vineyard. Our plan was to release a third compilation before we started doing individual albums. We had to change our plans however, because while we were in the studio working on the third compilation, people from far away as Ghana, Africa were writing and calling TCOOO saying they wanted to hear more music from Vineyard. While we all knew that Stolen Legacy was a classic song, we underestimated the impact it would have on people worldwide. TCOOO is one for all and all for one, so we decided if the people wanted Vineyard that is what we will give them. We wrapped up production on 18 Karat Reggae Gold 2006, but decided to only release it via digital downloads, so we could use the money we had to press CDs to instead work on Vineyards solo project. We have released Vineyards CD and we are currently in the process of promoting and marketing it now. Be on the lookout for Vineyard and the whole TCOOO crew on tour this summer.
