DIE ROMAREISEN
Die Roma, Sinti, Calé und andere Volksgruppen, die man kurzerhand als „Zigeuner" bezeichnet, bilden die größte ethnische Minderheit Europas. Sie wurden in ihrer Geschichte diskriminiert und verjagt, versklavt und ermordet. Auch heute noch begegnet man ihnen im besten Fall mit Argwohn. Der dänische Photograph Joakim Eskildsen und seine Frau, die Schriftstellerin Cia Rinne, reisen sechs Jahre lang mit Roma-Familien und berichten aus ihrem Leben, ihrem Alltag und ihrer Kultur. Die Serie ist ein sehr persönliches Dokument der Begegnung.
Mit einem Vorwort von Günter Grass ist das außergewöhnliche Buch zur Ausstellung unter dem Titel
„Die Romareisen" im Steidl Verlag erschienen.

THE ROMA JOURNEYS
The Roma, Sinti, Calé and other ethnic groups collectively referred to as "Gypsies", form the largest ethnic minority in Europe. Throughout their history, the Roma have been subjected to discrimination, persecution and expulsions across Europe. Many Roma still have to deal with discrimination on various levels and in all European countries, the general attitude towards them is at least suspicious. Danish photographer Joakim Eskildsen and his wife, the writer Cia Rinne, travelled to meet Roma in seven different countries between 2000 and 2006, often staying with families for long periods in order to learn about their life, their culture, and their situation. "The Roma Journeys" is a very personal document of these encounters. The book accompanying the exhibition was published by Steidl. It includes a forwword by Günter Grass.
