Every saturday morning at 9 AM we provide a special kid's tour for any children under the age of 10 years. This is a great experience for the kid's as they come face to face with tigers, lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, lynx and more! The tour lasts for about an hour and they get to learn about the cat's individual histories, as well as the species in general. The tours provide a different experience to visiting a zoo as you are only a few feet away from the cats! So you get to hear the tigers "chuff", lions ROAR! and the cougars squeak! When a swelling was noticed on the ear of one of our bobcats, we decided to sedate Windstar in order to drain the fluid from his ear. We then stitched the incisions open so no further problems would occur. Windstar had been relocated to another enclosure the previous week, so we could renovate his. Joseph's Pride are two lions and two tigers that were rescued from a facility in Columbus, Ohio on october 19th, 2007. This rescue was made possible by the support of IFAW (the International Fund for Animal Welfare) and by all of our supporters who helped us raise the money to rescue these cats. As you can see in this update all four cats are doing very well and are enjoying their one acre enclosure complete with pool and long grass to play and hide in! We offer a variety of different tours at Big Cat Rescue, from regular guided tours of the sanctuary to feeding tours where you get to watch the big cats chomping down on their dinner up close! We also offer night tours where you are guided around Big Cat Rescue with the aid of a flashlight, when the cats are at the most active for a totally different experience! Our Big Cat Keeper Tour is our most popular and offers guests an exclusive behind the scenes experience found nowhere else in the world, that is respectful to the animals and safe for the guests. The experience is divided into two parts: Enrichment (making toys and treats for the cats and watch as a keeper hands out what you've made) and Operant Conditioning featured in this video, which is a training session between the cats and a keeper. Operant conditioning is a positive reinforcement training method we use to observe the animals up close in case any medical treatment is required and also to move our cats into seperate parts of their enclosure when maintenance is scheduled.
