Clips from the life of Chairman Mao Zedong. Music is from the revolutionary opera "The Red Detachment of Women", famously played to President Nixon during his 1972 visit. A chance to see the real man in action rather than the distorted, dishonest accounts in Jung Chang and Jon Halliday's narrow view in their character-assasination biography.

http://store.operapassion.com/dvdww109.html John Adams's first opera Nixon In China (1985-7), produced by Peter Sellars, with libretto by Alice Goodman, about the visit of Richard Nixon to China in 1972, where he met with Mao Zedong and other Chinese officials. Act II Ending - Madam Mao desires to save the peasants at all costs leading her to become more brutal than the landlord was in the first place. Eventually, a riot develops on stage with Chou and Madam Mao on opposite sides - the opera has become a rerun of the Cultural Revolution. - Quote from Lyrics: (Chiang Ch'ing 江青)"I am the wife of Mao Tse-Tung who raised the weak above the strong. When I appear[,] the people hang upon my words".

Film and photos of great revolutionary leader Mao Zedong and scenes from China during the revolution and under his rule. A man (NOT a God) who made many mistakes, but undeniably a great military and political genius who changed the worlds most populous country forever, and inspired revolutionaries and progressives all over the world. To this day, he is still an influential force, not just in China but also inspiring Maoist People's Wars in Nepal (Prachanda), Peru, Colombia, India, The Philippines, and also potentially in Bhutan. Since Deng Xiapoings coup, the Chinese Communist Party has largely put forward policies based on introducing market elements into the economy, creating an increasing wealth gap, social divions, the re-emergence of class antagonisms, a clique of Party bureaucrats and corruption. The Chinese Communist Party's official position on Mao, from a resolution adopted in 1981, is thus: "Comrade Mao Zedong was a great Marxist and a great proletarian revolutionary, strategist and theorist. It is true that he made gross mistakes during the "cultural revolution", but, if we judge his activities as a whole, his contributions to the Chinese revolution far outweigh his mistakes. His merits are primary and his errors secondary. He rendered indelible meritorious service in founding and building up our Party and the Chinese People's Liberation Army, in winning victory for the cause of liberation of the Chinese people, in founding the People's Republic of China and in advancing our socialist cause. He made major contributions to the liberation of the oppressed nations of the world and to the progress of mankind." The video features some popular songs from the Cultural Revolution (taken from very old and crackly 45rpm records!). VIVA MAO!!!!

Chairman Mao Zedong, shortly prior to its death, this time he wanted to watch everybody walk out instead of going first. Mao said: "If you are not going, I will also not go"... 毛泽东:"你们不走,我也不走" ... Mao Zedong was a great revolutionary leader, and statesman. He did make a few mistakes though, however during his time leading China he did a fair amount to help out the disadvantaged of China and brought the country to where it is today. Mao still is most popular amongst the poor and workers. In that position and those very very hard times, I wonder if anyone else could have prevented more people from dying. He did a good job in preventing China to become such as Africa. China is now helping Africa to develop, which the west should have done 100 years ago. Of course there are also economic reasons, but wealth is spreaded in a more humane way with Africa by China, now there is fair trade. China's current immense economic success is a precious legacy from Chairman Mao and other late Chinese leaders. All revolutions in history have cost blood only China is pursuing it much later than most western countries. Don't forget we did the same thing, and often much worse. Leaders in such times had to make tuff decisions and make the best out of it. Mao did well compared to many already developed countries. I'm from the Netherlands and we for instance have a much more bloody history than China with slavery and murder within and even outside our country. Western leaders back then responsible for all this bloodshed are considered as heroes today and have their own statues and galleries where they are honored. Lets keep everything in perspective... It is always easy to judge someone, but remember what Jesus said: "let he who is without sin trow the first stone". We are all humans that make mistakes together with our governments, what did you ever do wrong? And your government?? We all live on one planet and should come together...one world one dream! China is doing better and better in its fast political, economical and social transition, really a accomplishment that has never been shown before. Countries should support this transition because it increases the standard of living for a great part of the world and reduces poverty and hunger. Although I understand that many western countries see China as a huge competitor (and threat for their power and wealth) that has to be divided, but its better to work together and realize that we all live in one world where wealth should fairly be spreaded amongst: everybody! Go China, support from Holland!!

China, keep up the good work, change the world by reducing poverty and hunger and spreading wealth more equally! I always thought western media is objective, independent from the government and a example to the world, but I found out its not. Unfortunately. Every country has its own (mostly very bloody) history and revolutions, and should not forget that when judging other countries. In the position of Mao in those very very hard times, I wonder if anyone else could have prevented more people from dying. He did a good job in preventing China to become such as Africa. I'm happy China is now helping Africa to develop, which the west should have done 100 years ago! Of course there are also economic reasons, but wealth is spreaded in a more humane way with Africa by China now. Thats good, wealth should not only be kept in the west only (secured by wars), we all live on one planet together! Not to mention all the wars and mess caused by the west today, showing that human right violations are not really an issue. Tibet is therefore not about human rights, its political. Hopefully everybody sees that its not about human rights with Tibet but that Tibet is used for the political agenda of the west to divide China into parts, an attempt to stop a worldwide competitor, a number 1 military and economic worldpower, China. The legacy of Mao. Western media lies about Tibet by purposely modifying and misjudging pictures, using old pictures, pictures from other countries and manipulating pictures and subtitles! More and more westerners are noticing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSQnK5FcKas Actually westerners cannot be blamed for their anger, also during the olympic flame, because of being misinformed by western governments through media that purposely shows a twisted and one sided picture. We as westerners don't know better, please make up your own mind. Many Tibetans thank Chairman Mao for liberating them from slavery and torture, almost all Tibetans and Chinese don't endure the problems as mentioned by the west. Lets look at it from the positive side; all these lies, old pictures and wrong subtitles used and manipulated by western media, creates an even tighter bound between the 1.3 billion Chinese! The 1.3 billion Chinese (and the 40 million Chinese abroad) will unite because of all this, forming an even stronger economic and military worldpower. The west is therefore fulfilling a wish of the Chinese government, and strengthens the legacy of Chairman Mao. But I don't think countries like China, Russia or in the Middle East (where more than half of the world population lives) would want to be a part of this western kind of "democracy", unless we show we have some decent values and norms. Everybody should work together. I feel ashamed to be western, dealing with each other in a respectable manner will accomplice much more. It also funny that western countries talk about human right violations, it seems westerners forget their history and actions at the moment around the world. Lets think about own actions first, and then judge others (fair, not twisted).. Also see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nOeaHTuHYg Chinese: Keep up the good work and economic, political and social transition process, and change the world! Go China!! ----------------------------- This is a video of Chairman Mao Zedong and China.
