Trailer of the masterpiece documentary on the power and dignity of the nomads of Mongolia.
A must see.
I'd like to use the opportunity to share with you some developments threatening the traditional nomadic life in Northern Mongolia:
- In the course of just 10 years, nearly 300 lakes (oases for the wild animals) dried up in the steppes.
- Weather is becoming harsher with more frequent storms, killing many thousands of wild and domesticated animals
- Many nomads are joining the city, where they live quiet miserably at its periphery with their yurts in the mud and in enclosed spaces.
- The government wants to privatise the steppes which would take away the sacred freedom of nomads and the animals. (a Mongolian proverb says: even if God asks you, you cannot sell the land)
- The government wants to ban the horse-racing tradition - where many children participate even as young as 4 years old - because it deems it too dangerous.
