Chile Sub 23 abrió esperanzas con heroico triunfo ante Francia en Toulon SANTIAGO.- Pocas veces una selección chilena consigue buenos resultados en el extranjero. Más aún, es difícil que logren dar vuelta marcadores. Por eso lo que consiguió esta tarde el equipo de Marcelo Bielsa en Toulon es más que valorable y puede quedar en la historia. Chile Sub 23 ganó 5-3 a Francia en su debut en el torneo Esperanzas de Toulon, después de ir cayendo 3-1 ante los actuales campeones del certamen. Y fue heroico lo de los nacionales, porque lograron sobreponerse a un mal primer tiempo, en el que dejaron muchas dudas y poco en limpio. Al término de los primeros 45 minutos Chile caía 2-1. Goles de Bonnet (18') y Quercia (22') para Francia y José Pedro Fuenzalida (33') para la "Roja". Incluso llegaron a estar 3-1 arriba los locales con anotación de Pentecote, cuando recién se jugaban dos minutos del segundo lapso. De ahí en adelante apareció la magia de Chile, Pedro Morales se adueñó del mediocampo y la defensa comenzó a rendir; mas, Toselli botó los nervios y respondió en un par de jugadas de peligro de los galos. Todo esto ayudado por la expulsión de Faty en Francia, después de una descomunal falta a Morales. Tras esta incidencia, tiro libre de Villanueva, centro al área y Hans Martínez de cabeza la mandó adentro para el segundo descuento chileno. Vinieron los cambios de Bielsa y le hicieron bien a Chile. Lorca le dio más peso ofensivo y Sagredo la velocidad y sorpresa por la izquierda. Así llegaron los tantos para el triunfo: autogol de Louvion a los 80', puntazo en el área de Lorca a los 89' y golazo de Sagredo al minuto de agregado. Gran triunfo de Chile que lo deja como líder del grupo y habiendo derrotado al rival más difícil, los locales y actuales monarcas del campeonato. En el otro duelo del día Japón derrotó a Holanda, el próximo rival del equipo de Bielsa.

Total Rugby paid a visit recently to the south of France to catch up with George Gregan, the Wallaby legend who is playing for Toulon since hanging up his international boots after the World Cup. Australia will always be home for George Gregan, but right now the former Wallaby and his young family are enjoying life in a different country, albeit one that feels a little bit familiar after his time in France during Rugby World Cup 2007. The south of France and Toulon in particular is the new challenge the world's most capped player with 139 Tests for Australia is currently enjoying, playing for the ambitious and star-studded club hoping to win promotion to the Top 14. "Being here during the World Cup was really important to just getting accustomed to the place," Gregan told Total Rugby. "The Wallabies were based a couple of hours down the road in Montpellier, so although we're sort of new in Toulon it's like we've been here for a while. "It's been a good experience in terms of getting out of what you know and that's Australia. Home is Australia for us, but we're just loving the experience." In his 11 seasons with the Brumbies and more than a decade in the gold of Australia the scrum half often found himself up against many of his new team-mates, including South African Victor Matfield and New Zealanders Anton Oliver and Andrew Mehrtens. "The superstar tag has been thrown about a bit by Mehrts. I've been playing against him since Under 19s so it's a great opportunity to play with him, a guy I've had massive respect for and love watching play and obviously respected playing against. Same with Victor, then all of a sudden you are able to play together. We've come from successful places and it's a really nice mix." The different style of play, though, has taken a little getting used to. A nice way to finish "The football in Pro D2 it's very set piece focused -- lots of driving mauls. The ball's not in play that much. You're probably not rewarded for trying to use the ball as much, so it can be very negative and frustrating -- that's a new experience," admitted the 34-year-old. "That's a new challenge for this group because we are one of only a handful of teams that play quite positively, probably about four teams I reckon who are positive and go out there to play rugby, the others are not so much that way inclined." Gregan is determined to help Toulon return to the top tier in France and while he brought down the curtain on his international career after Australia's quarter-final loss to England at RWC 2007, the World Cup winner is not ruling out staying on for another season. "I've really enjoyed the experience so far and if you get to the top they'd love to keep the team together and if the team did go up it would be good for them to stay up there," admitted Gregan. "Toulon deserves to stay up because it's going to be a very strong club and rightfully playing in the Top 14. There is that opportunity [for me to play on], it's just a matter of seeing how I feel physically. "So far I am feeling good and that would be a nice challenge, a nice way to finish the career, [but] f it finishes after this particular season I would be happy as well. The family's enjoyed every bit of it and we can always head home."

Chile venció a Holanda y avanzó a semifinales del Torneo de Toulon Un importante triunfo fue el que logró la selección Sub 23 sobre su similar de Holanda por 2-0, que le permitió acceder a semifinales del torneo Esperanzas de Toulon. Y era un pleito importante para los dirigidos de Marcelo Bielsa, pues buscaban ratificar la buena actuación realizada en el segundo tiempo del pleito ante Francia, y de paso, dejar en evidencia el buen trabajo que se está realizando a nivel de selecciones. En ese sentido, los holandeses eran, al menos en el papel, un buen rival para medir fuerzas, considerando que necesitaba el triunfo para mantener sus ilusiones de avanzar en el certamen. Pero Chile no lo quiso así, pues dominaron las acciones sin mayor contrapeso, creándose varias oportunidades en los primeros minutos del pleito ante un discreto cuadro "tulipán", que buscaba aprovechar este torneo para preparar su próxima participación en Beijing. Esto permitió que Chile abriera la cuenta a los 18', gracias al tanto de José Pedro Fuenzalida, quien aprovechó una buena jugada de Fabián Orellana, que se constituyó en la mejor figura de la "Rojita". Chile dominaba y merecía otro gol. Y así lo intentaba Juan Gonzalo Lorca, además de Orellana, que aproblemaban más de la cuenta a los europeos en el ataque. Hasta que a los 85' derribaron al propio Orellana en el área y el mismo jugador audino aumentó desde los 12 pasos, sentenciando el pleito. Posteriormente los holandeses se descontrolaron, y terminaron el pleito con dos jugadores menos, uno de ellos expulsado por escupir a Gonzalo Jara. De esta forma, Chile logró su acceso a la ronda de cuatro mejores, pues sumó seis unidades, las mismas que tiene Japón (el otro clasificado), cuando sólo resta una fecha para que finalice la fase de grupos.
