A chemical plant in Zhoushan city in China released a poisonous gas, affecting hundreds of residents. On April residents blocked the road in front of the factory in protest. Instead of heading their call, local authorities send more than 100 police to suppress the protestors. STORY: 
Local Zhoushan city resident, Mr. Fang said that since the Hebang chemical plant began its trial production a month ago, it's been harmful to the 20,000 city residents. Because of the poison, many people are suffering from dizziness, nausea, and facial numbness. Some residents with severe symptoms have had to go to the hospital. [Mr. Fang, Resident, Zhoushan City, Xiaosha County]: (quote 1, male) 
"They have their trial production for one month. The gas is very smelly. Many people are poisoned by the smelly gas." Mr. Fang also said that people living nearby who suffered from the poisonous gas have asked the factory to help them financially so they could move to other places, but their requests were ignored. Residents decided to block the road in front of the factory to force the factory to stop production. Local authorities sent more than 100 policemen to suppress them. "Our people haven't slept for three days and three nights. We were sleeping on the road. On April 14th, it broke out and 110 armed police arrived. And they even brought doctors just in case they decided to beat people. When they saw us secretly taking photos, they confiscated our cameras." "In an authoritarian country the people's voice cannot be transferred to an effective monitoring mechanism, which leads to more and more conflicts. This is the reason for the chemical pollution happening in Zhoushan, Zhejiang." Investigators determined that the main products of Hebang chemical plant are benzene, toluene, and xylene (PX). The factory is due to start formal operation on May 10th. NASA Won't Disclose Air Safety Survey http://invenice.net/content/view/2500/61/ Anxious to avoid upsetting air travelers, NASA is withholding results from an unprecedented national survey of pilots that found safety problems like near collisions and runway interference occur far more frequently than the government previously recognized. Just last week, NASA ordered the contractor that conducted the survey to purge all related data from its computers. The Associated Press learned about the NASA results from one person familiar with the survey who spoke on condition of anonymity because this person was not authorized to discuss them. A senior NASA official, associate administrator Thomas S. Luedtke, said revealing the findings could damage the public's confidence in airlines and affect airline profits. Luedtke acknowledged that the survey results "present a comprehensive picture of certain aspects of the U.S. commercial aviation industry." The AP sought to obtain the survey data over 14 months under the U.S. Freedom of Information Act. "Release of the requested data, which are sensitive and safety-related, could materially affect the public confidence in, and the commercial welfare of, the air carriers and general aviation companies whose pilots participated in the survey," Luedtke wrote in a final denial letter to the AP. NASA also cited pilot confidentiality as a reason, although no airlines were identified in the survey, nor were the identities of pilots, all of whom were promised anonymity. Among other results, the pilots reported at least twice as many bird strikes, near mid-air collisions and runway incursions as other government monitoring systems show, according to a person familiar with the results who was not authorized to discuss them publicly. The survey also revealed higher-than-expected numbers of pilots who experienced "in-close approach changes" -- potentially dangerous, last-minute instructions to alter landing plans. Officials at the NASA Ames Research Center in California have said they want to publish their own report on the project by year's end. "If the airlines aren't safe I want to know about it," said Rep. Brad Miller, R-N.C., chairman of the House Science and Technology investigations and oversight subcommittee. "I would rather not feel a false sense of security because they don't tell us." Discussing NASA's decision not to release the survey data, the congressman said: "There is a faint odor about it all."

Concerning South Korea's current consternation with US beef imports, there appears to be some misconceptions, particularly in the manner in which the Korean reactions could be interpreted by US citizens. Korean people do not wish to halt importation of US beef to South Korea; Koreans simply wish to specify exactly which types of products their country should import. Mad Cow diseases that are transmitted to humans are caused by the ingestion a protein substance in cows called prion. 99% of these substances are found in the SRMs (Specified Risk Materials) such as brain, skull, eyes, trigeminal ganglia, spinal cord, dorsal root ganglia, and vertebral column (excluding some parts). The USDA defines SRMs as "stuff not edible and not usable in human food." The Korean government has agreed to import the five parts of SRMs. The SRMs in countries such as Europe and Japan are incinerated and are not used at all. Studies show that Mad Cow disease occurs most frequently in cattle 30 months and older, and in some cases, in cattle between the ages of 24 months and 30 months. South Koreans citizens do not wish to import US beef taken from cattle in the high-risk age range. They simply wish to consume safe beef, much the same way as Americans do. South Korean citizens have recently and publicly expressed their dissatisfaction at their own government's policies on international import liberties. Specifically, the Korean government favors importing cattle products from 30 month and older cows; more than 80% of the public community, however, rejects this policy. There are a number of other governmental policies that the Korean public disagrees with as well, but suffice to say, the average American watching the news would probably not find personal interest in such matters, thus, many Americans are hard-pressed to truly appreciate the Korean struggle taking place in Seoul and other Korean cities. So, when negotiations break down, and after so many requests to change governmental policy, how then do South Koreans finally express their personal disappointment in their own government? Korean citizens have historically favored public protest and mass demonstration as a means of communicating their opinions to their own elected leaders. These "candle-light" demonstrations are peaceful and are attended by men, women, the elderly, students, and even children with their parents. In conclusion, the American onlooker must appreciate the truth that South Korean protests do not represent a wholesale public rejection of US beef. Concerned South Korean citizens are merely expressing their desire to acquire humanly safe products from their international neighbors.

Hindu Temples Destroyed - History Suppressed Aurangzeb was a very cruel ruler ' some might even say monstrous. What are the facts? Aurangzeb did not just build an isolated mosque on a destroyed temple, he ordered all temples destroyed, among them the Kashi Vishvanath, one of the most sacred places of Hinduism and had mosques built on a number of cleared temples sites. All other Hindu sacred places within his reach equally suffered destruction, with mosques built on them. A few examples: Krishna's birth temple in Mathura, the rebuilt Somnath temple on the coast of Gujurat, the Vishnu temple replaced with the Alamgir mosque now overlooking Benares and the Treta-ka-Thakur temple in Ayodhya. The number of temples destroyed by Aurangzeb is counted in 4, if not 5 figures. Aurangzeb did not stop at destroying temples, their users were also wiped-out; even his own brother, Dara Shikoh, was executed for taking an interest in Hindu religion and the Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded because he objected to Aurangzeb's forced conversions. People might say: 'ok, this is all true, Aurangzeb was indeed a monster, but why rake the past, when we have tensions between Muslims and Hindus today' ? There are two reasons to this exhibition. The first one is that no nation can move forward unless its children are taught to look squarely at their own history, the good and the bad, the evil and the pure. The French for instance have many dark periods of their history, more recently some of the deeds they did during colonization in North Africa or how they collaborated with the Nazis during the 2d world war and handed over French Jews who died in concentration camps (French people are only coming to terms with it now).The argument that looking at one's history will pit a community against the other does not hold either: French Catholics and Protestants, who share a very similar religion, fought bitterly each other. Catholics brutally murdered thousands of Protestants in the 18th century; yet today they lived peacefully next to each other. France fought three wars with Germany in the last 150 years, yet they are great friends today. Let then Hindus and Muslims come to terms with what happened under Aurangzeb, because Muslims suffered as much as Hindus. It was not only Shah Jahan or Dara Shikoh who were murdered, but also the forefathers of today's Indian Muslims who have been converted at 90%. Aurangzeb was the Hitler, the Asura of Medieval India. No street is named after Hitler in the West, yet in Delhi we have the Aurangzeb road, a constant reminder of the horrors Aurangzeb perpetrated against Indians, including against his own people. Finally, Aurangzeb is very relevant today because he thought that Sunni Islam was the purest form of his religion and he sought to impose it with ruthless efficiency - even against those of his own faith, such as his brother. Aurangzeb clamped down on the more syncretic, more tolerant Islam, of the Sufi kind, which then existed in India.But he did not fully succeed. Four centuries later, is he going to have the last word ? I remember, when I started covering Kashmir in the late seventies, that Islam had a much more open face. The Kashmir Muslim, who is also a descendant of converted Hindus, might have thought that Allah was the only true God, but he accepted his Kashmir Pandit neighbor, went to his or her marriage, ate in his or her house and the Hindu in turn went to the mosque. Women used to walk with open faces, watch TV, films. Then the shadow of Aurangzeb fell again on Kashmir and the hard-line Sunnis came from Pakistan and Afghanistan : cinemas were banned, the burqua imposed, 400.000 Kashmiri Pandits were chased out of Kashmir by violence and became refugees in their own land and the last Sufi shrine of Srhar-e- Sharif was burnt to the ground (I was there). This is a superb modification to a great design, the Ruger Mk II/III .22 pistol. Tactical Solutions makes superb quality aftermarket receiver barrels for both Ruger and Browning .22 pistols. The Ruger receiver barrels are called the "Pac Lite" line. They also make barrels for Ruger 10/22s. Fitting a TS barrel to your Ruger pistol will transform it into a lightweight, superbly accurate, and funner gun. Barrels come in a wide range of colorations but my favorites are OD, Brown, and Matte Grey. For just a cool non-tactical look, Bright Blue is hard to beat. I recommend getting the fluted versions on all their barrels and paying the extra cost for the fitment Picatinny rails to the tops and bottoms for optical/light accessories. The Tactical Innovations suppressor is lightweight and well-made but as of yet I don't know how it stacks up against AAC or Gemtech offerings. But together they form an impressive and lightweight (and silent!) tactical .22 package.
