Another highlight clip of the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games closing ceremony: the Torino 2006 presentation.
First, it starts with the flag of the European Union by projection on the ice. Remember, Torino 2006 was the first Winter Olympics to be held, under the auspices of the new common European currency: the Euro. Along with it, the Olympic Rings and the tri-colors of the Italian flag by projection and the skaters on the ice.
Second, Irene Grandi sings the song called "Volare", but I am not sure at this time.
Third, the Italian flag throwers do their dance. The history of it goes way back to the Renaissance period, which was roughly from the 14th to 17th centuries. In fact, it was Italy that gave birth to the Renaissance that spread throughout Europe. In the Torino 2006 opening ceremony, these same guys would appear and do the exact thing as this clip is showing.
Fourth and pleasing to the eyes to some, Italian fashion comes out to play, making the stadium floor into "one big runway." Fashion designs from Valentino, Versace and Dolce e Gabbana make their presence known. In a funny way, someone in the audience yells "All right!" I hope those ladies were ready for the cold then. I don't think that wearing those expensive outfits without a jacket was that wise to begin with.
Fifth, more projections of Italian history and achievements, with Elisa singing along. As some of the YouTube members have CORRECTLY figured out already, she sings a part of the Italian national anthem here. Elisa would sing one of her songs at the Torino 2006 closing ceremony.
Finally, the official logo of the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games is revealed by projection and the flags carried by the same flag throwers.
