Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports on another day of chaos on the route of the Olympic torch. The latest leg was in Paris, where protests forced organisers to abandon carrying the flame on foot, in favour of a bus ride. The massive French police deployment was not enough to contain demonstrations against China's human-rights policy and treatment of Tibet. Some protestors even called the torch the "flame of shame".

CIPFG believes Beijing has failed to keep its promise to improve the human rights condition as well as freedom of speech in China. Susan Prager, the Outreach Director of the Global Human Rights Torch Relay, talks about the ongoing events. The Human Rights Torch Relay (HRTR) is an international campaign that seeks to bring an end to all human rights abuses against people in China ave been evicted from their homes to make way for commercial construction, and beaten or killed if they protest; any meager payment offered to them is usually stolen by corrupt local officials; # Millions of Chinese are sent without trial to slave labour camps, where they are tortured and forced to work long days producing consumer goods. Recent product recalls highlight the dangers of these goods to the public, which, for higher profits, often use toxic ingredients instead of safe ones; # China continues to impose forced abortion and sterilization to enforce its ''One Child" policy, as per-family population control measures; # China imprisons more reporters, and executes more prisoners, than any other country in the world; # The Chinese regime funds and arms rogue regimes such as the Sudanese-government-supported Janjaweed militia, which is committing genocide in Darfur where millions have been murdered and millions more displaced from their homes; # Stringent Internet censorship and public surveillance, with technology supplied by western companies, enables widespread monitoring and suppression of free speech.

The Olympic torch has completed the latest leg of its relay - in the Australian capital Canberra - without major disruption. There were several arrests over isolated scuffles with both pro- and anti-China demonstrators. Local police took complete control of security, keeping China's controversial flame guards at a distance. David Hardaker reports from Canberra.

Some people may be interested in a news about the torch relay in Japan. The relay will be held in Nagano city, 1998 Winter Game host. Originally it had been planned to start from Zenkoji temple, a national treasure with 1300 year history, but Zenkoji announced withdrawal from the relay for security concerns and protesting against China on Tibet issue. After the withdrawal, Nagano city suffered to find an alternative start point and finally decided to a vacant land owned by the city. The ironic thing is that the place was originally used as a detention center i.e. the torch starts from ex-jail place.(Mr.366,Thanks!)

But now---as China wraps up a three-day national mourning period --- for the victims of last week's deadly earthquake------there's word that the torch relay will be delayed. Organizers of the Beijing Olympics say the Sichuan leg of the torch relay will be shifted from mid-June to early August because of the massive quake...The delay has been scheduled so that all available resources can be devoted to supporting disaster relief efforts in Sichuan.If the torch was to pass through the region --- local law enforcement would have to devote time and effort to supporting the large scale public event. There's no word if the torch relay would still go through Mianyang, one of the hardest-hit areas.More than 41,000 people are confirmed dead from the May 12 earthquake with millions more homeless.
