This video explains the user interface of the GIMP. The goal of the tutorial is to make you understand how the user interface works, so that you can explore GIMP without being hindered by the user interface. Excuse my abuse of the word 'and'. At 2:48 when I say 'layers', I mean 'dialogs'. The sentence should read: "This is where I usually grab my dialogs." == Tutorial FAQ == Q: I only have one window :( What's wrong? A: By default GIMP is configured to save window positions on exit. If you only get one window when you start GIMP, that's what the saved window configuration is. You can reset this to default by going to 'File / Preferences / Window Management' and clicking the 'Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values' button. Here you can also disable that GIMP should save window configuration on exit, as well as save current window configuration. This way you can make sure that GIMP will always start with a specific window configuration independant of the window configuration you had when you closed GIMP. == Technical/Misc information == The video was created with recordMyDesktop and MEncoder, recorded on the Ubuntu linux distribution (version 6.10) And yeah, unfortunately the sound quality sucks, but I don't feel like a re-recording. Feel free to spread the video in YouTube-embedded format as much as you like.

www.airpiano.de The AirPiano is an innovative musical interface which allows playing and controlling software instruments simply by moving hands in the air. Above the AirPiano is a virtual matrix of keys and faders, each assigned with MIDI messages and ready to be triggered. The length of a triggered note is equivalent to the time a hand is placed on the corresponding virtual key. This is also confirmed by LED feedback. The AirPiano Software allows easy setup, loading/saving presets and transposing notes. The AirPiano is still in its prototype phase and its concept of a virtual matrix might eventually be used for other applications and purposes. The AirPiano concept is filled as a Provisional U.S. Patent Application (Number: 60/989,986). Specifications: Polyphonic, MIDI protocol, Up to 24 keys / 8 faders, USB connectivity

http://live.pirillo.com - It's hard to believe that many of us started learning computers before there was any kind of GUI. We existed on the Command Line. It took the release of Win 95 to get me away from the Command Line. Read more: http://chris.pirillo.com/2008/06/05/does-google-have-a-command-line-interface/

Google Tech Talks June, 4 2008 ABSTRACT Verification techniques that rely on state enumeration (such as model checking) face two important challenges: 1) State-space explosion: exponential increase in the state space with the increasing number of components. 2) Environment generation: modeling components that are either not available for analysis, or that are outside the scope of the verification tool at hand. We propose a semi-automated approach for attacking these two problems. In our approach, interfaces for the components that are outside the scope of the current verification effort are specified using an interface specification language based on grammars. Specifically, an interface grammar for a component specifies the sequences of method invocations that are allowed by that component. We have built an interface compiler that takes the interface grammar for a component as input and generates a stub for that component. The stub generated from the interface grammar of a component can be used to replace that component during state space exploration, either to assuage the state space explosion, or to provide an executable environment for the component that is being verified.
