This is an insurgent-produced videotape captured during a raid on August 5, 2007, in Nahrawan, Iraq, about 20 miles due east of Baghdad. In the video, you will see insurgents setting up about 50 rocket launchers all aimed at American soldiers, and firing the rockets at American positions. Thirty four of the rocket launchers held Iranian 107mm rockets.

*IRAQ* Watch as a group of heavily armed masked Insurgents plan and record their own death by executing a failed attack on U.S. Forces. Soldiers record the aftermath of the attack and confiscate the tape the Insurgents had filmed. I have watched the tape many times and concluded this: Twelve (12) Insurgents gather in a field -minus 1 camera man- lead by a one man. This man must have some prior military experience I believe, but the rest of these men do not. He creates a sand table exercise and goes over it explaining where the drop off point will be, and where to shoot. I see in the sand table he shows two(2) bunker positions. He points those out. They also pray before they take their last ride and meet their fate. As the men get to the destination they commence shooting automatic AK-47 gunfire towards one(1) elevated bunker position, though two(2) bunkers are visible. They are greeted by one(1) entrenched Marine armed with a M240 machine gun(standard support). The higher bunker appears to be vacant. As the men scramble and take cover behind the white truck they are sitting ducks because M240 rounds go through sheet metal and the truck provides virtually no cover for them. They try to return fire but the bunker is dug in deep. As the gunfight is at its peak, one of the men sees the plan was a failure and goes back in the truck, starts it, then tries to drive off leaving the rest of the men as well as the camera man hiding behind the truck/engine block in the open. He is killed. As the camera man runs away he takes several steps when he is also mortally wounded, he falls and you can hear the man say something, then the camera shows bullets skipping off the sand in the background as the man passes away. All twelve(12) insurgents die. The videos are confiscated and Marines record the aftermath.

We also hear the chilling words of a sniper who refers to the ennemy as 'donkeys':'I swear to God', he says, 'I shot twelve bullets at an American camp and only three bullets missed. With the other nine bullets, I killed a donkey.' Paul McGeough's conclusion after watching the video is short and simple: 'If they can make homemade weapons, if they can move around with the ease that they do, if they show as blatantly as they do that they can get the wherewithal to mascarade as members of the Iraqi security forces, you got a problem as a counter-insurgent.'

In their just-released special report, "Iraqi Insurgent Media: The War of Images and Ideas," Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty regional analysts Daniel Kimmage and Kathleen Ridolfo take an in-depth look at the multi-layered media efforts of Sunni insurgents, who are responsible for the majority of U.S. combat deaths in Iraq. Insurgents and their supporters communicate with the world through daily press releases, weekly and monthly magazines, books, video clips, full-length films, countless websites, and even television stations. Mainstream Arab media amplify the insurgent message to a mass audience. The insurgency's media efforts are decentralized, fast-moving, and technologically adaptive, with the overall message emerging from the collective efforts of individuals and small groups, transmitted daily to an audience of millions. Anti-Shi'ite hate speech is an increasingly prominent part of the insurgent message. Kimmage and Ridolfo argue that popularity of online Iraqi Sunni insurgent media reflects a genuine demand for their message in the Arab world.
