An explosion has ripped through a 12-storey apartment block in the Russian resort city of Sochi, killing at least two people and leaving 11 others injured. A man and a 14-year-old were killed when the blast occurred at around 5am local time. Police believe household gas cylinders may be the cause.

Hello I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Tuesday, September 25, 2007. An injured George Clooney and his girlfriend hobbled their way to the premiere of Clooney's latest movie last night. The actor and Sarah Larson attended the showing of his new film "Michael Clayton" despite being in a motorcycle accident last week. Larson, who broke her foot in the accident, arrived on crutches. And Clooney who suffered a hairline rib fracture told People magazine the two are just resting and recovering. Miley Cyrus' spokesperson is denying pregnancy rumors. A fake celebrity magazine article had reported that the 14 year old "Hannah Montana" star was pregnant but her rep says it's "100 percent false." Cyrus just wrapped up taping for season two of the hit Disney Channel show and she's heading on a concert tour next month. The opening of the Metropolitan Opera season last night brought some big celebrity guests. Veteran broadcasters Barbara Walters and Walter Cronkite attended the New York event as well as actresses Jane Fonda and Mary-Louise Parker. TV host John McEnroe and his wife Patty were there as well as Actress Blythe Danner. The Opera opened with Donizetti's "Lucia de Lammmermoor." Justin Timberlake is leading the way with the most nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards. He's nominated in four categories including solo artist of the year and the headliner award. Several other artists are following close behind with three nominations including Amy Winehouse and Beyonce Knowles. The award ceremony will take place in November in Munich. A large crowd gathered in London over the weekend to not only dine, but dine underwater. 500 people enjoyed their meal in H20 to break the Guinness world record for the biggest sub-aqua formal dinner party. The previous record holder was in 1991...but there were only 100 people in attendance. Guests wore suits and ball gowns. They were served smokes salmon, vegetables and toffee apple dessert. From http://www.akibanana.com A man who went to Akihabara to kill people drove into shoppers with a truck and went on a stabbing spree, killing at least seven people and wounding ten others, police said. The attack occurred around twelve thirty on Sunday in one of the busiest areas of Tokyo. The massacre is the worst killing spree in recent years and came on the anniversary of a 2001 school slayings in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture. Police have arrested Tomohiro Kato a 25 year old resident of Shizuoka prefecture in the Akihabara massacre. He is currently being held at the Manseibashi Police Station. The man apparrently claimed to be part of a criminal gang and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department quoted Kato as saying he was tired of life and he went to Akihabara to kill people. The fatalities were six men and one woman. It is unclear whether the victims were killed by stabbing or by being hit by the truck. Meanwhile in Akihabara people gathered in the evening to offer tributes to the victims in front of Sofmap. They placed beverages and flowers at the scene of the slayings as a memorial to the victims. Fallout from the massacre is spreading rapidly among people who frequent Akihabara. "This is a horrible tragedy," said a frequent visitor to Akihabara who did not want to be identified. "I love Akiba, but the image of Akiba-kei will suffer because of this. I plan to come back here but I will be more cautious from now on". According to the Japan Times there were 68 acts of random violence that resulted in serious injuries or death from 1990 to 2007. In January this year a sixteen year old boy attacked five people with kitchen knives in Tokyo's Shinagawa ward. In March, eight people were injured and one was killed when a man went on a stabbing spree at a shopping mall in Ibaraki prefecture. The otaku geek culture associated with Akihabara was long overshadowed by the Miyazaki Incident, in which anime fan Tsutomu Miyazaki kidnapped and killed four girls. The 1989 incident linked otaku culture with violent antisocial behavior in the mind of the public in Japan. EMILIO NAVAIRA CRITICALLY INJURED in BUS CRASH HOUSTON - Grammy-winning Tejano singer Emilio Navaira was critically injured when his band's bus crashed on a highway in the metro area, city and hospital officials said. ADVERTISEMENT Navaira and his band Rio had performed at a Houston nightclub on Saturday night. At about 5 a.m. Sunday, the band's bus slammed into traffic barrels on Interstate 610 northbound in Bellaire, a well-to-do enclave within the city west of downtown Houston, Bellaire police Sgt. Daniel Kerr said. Navaira was one of eight passengers on the bus who were injured, said Houston Assistant Fire Chief Omero Longoria. Navaira was listed in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was being treated in the intensive care unit, said hospital administrator Lisa Lagrone. He had surgery Sunday to remove a blood clot in his head, said Joe Casias, his agent, who was at the hospital with the hospital. "The next 24 hours are very critical," Casias said.
