In spite of having talked geographically in the near position, between Japanese, a common feature cannot be found out so much except for borrowing of a vocabulary.
Although the view which makes Ainu language the language which developed from one of some languages used as a Japanese base is common among specialists, at a present stage, Ainu language does not belong to a specific language family.
[The present condition of Ainu language]
Now, there is very little Ainu who has inherited Ainu language, and disappearing in the near future is one of the languages about which we are anxious.
In presumption in 1996, those who can speak Ainu language fluently in about 15,000 persons' Ainu had only 15 persons.
Furthermore, in another presumption, a native speaker already disappears in the Chishima Islands, probably it has disappeared, and the average age already exceeds 80 also for the speaker of Hokkaido which remains, and the number has also become ten or less persons even in Karafuto.
The level of disappearance anxiety of Ainu language serves as "a language near disappearance" between "the language which probably disappeared", and "the language severely exposed to the crisis of disappearance."
