LISBON, Portugal : 05.30.08 — Amy Winehouse showed up late for her first concert since leaving rehab, giving an underwhelming performance in front of 90,000 people Friday at a Lisbon music festival. The Grammy-winning jazz-pop diva turned up almost an hour late for the outdoor show. She apologized for having a sore throat, and her voice cracked during the 55-minute set. Winehouse, wearing a short dress, appeared distracted during her performance. She paused to talk to members of her band, fiddled at length with her microphone, sucked throat candy and at one point dashed offstage but quickly returned. She had cuts on her left arm, and her right hand was bandaged. Winehouse's musical career has flourished despite her erratic behavior, missed concerts and stints in drug rehab. "Hey Lisbon," Winehouse told the crowd, which had booed when she failed to show up on time. "I'm sorry I'm late," she said. The sell-out crowd, gathered in a park for the Rock in Rio festival, warmed to Winehouse as the 24-year-old sang hits including her breakthrough song "Rehab," soul classics and reggae songs. More photos have been leaked of Miley Cyrus kissing ex-boyfriend Thomas Sturges. The new images of their make out session are more intimate than the previous pictures of the Hannah Montana star flashing her green bra and lying on top of Sturges. The photos appear to have been taken at various times, since the teens are wearing different clothes. In one photo Miley is wearing the flannel shirt she had on in the previously leaked pictures with Sturges, and pajama pants in the one above. Miley's personal photos have slowing been leaking online since pics from her Myspace hit the internet in December. Each time the photos get a little more risque, like the wet t-shirt shower and other naughty photos that were reportedly sent to Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. The biggest controversy to date seems to be the Vanity Fair photos taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. Miley issued a statement saying she was embarassed by the photos and apologized to her fans. I'm sure Disney cringes each time a new batch of photos is released. -Regular P.O.V- (Short) Vicki and I had a good time last night. But, I feel sick..So much chocolate. Blah, I went into her bathroom and locked the door, I looked in the mirror, and suddenly had the urge to throw up. I turned around there I went. I threw up right in the toilet...I figured I had too many sweets, but then I remembered Josh. I rubbed my stomach and sighed. I kept thinking what would happen if I was pregnant. I looked through Vicki's cabinet. She lived with her older sister, who always had a test just in case, and luckily she did. I was nervous to take it, but I did anyways. ~~10 minutes later~~ I'm so nervous to look at the test....I don't want to be pregnant, I'm not ready to be pregnant. I walked over and picked up the test...When I looked down it showed a negative sign. YES! Thank you God, I'm not pregnant. I walked out of the bathroom, happy. I went into Vicki's room and apologized for being so long. After we cleaned up I ran down the street to my house. When I ran in my smile was huge. "KEVIN!!!" I yelled, hoping for him to come. Spain's Olympic basketball team posed for an advertisement prior to the Games which appears to show all its players slanting their eyes, a move that could offend its Olympic hosts in Beijing. The ads, for a Spanish courier company, appeared in the Spanish-language newspaper La Marca. As the uproar over the picture has grown today, more information about the advertising shot has come to light. The New York Times reports that Spain's basketball team is sponsored by Li-Ning Footwear, a Chinese company founded by Li Ning, the final torchbearer who was hoisted along the top of Beijing National Stadium during the Olympic Opening Ceremony finale. The ad reportedly references the Spanish team recently extending their contract with the footwear giant for another four years. The Spanish-language paper El Mundo has a piece debating whether the ad was racist that basically calls out the British press for trying to smear Spain's good name. But they miss the point. Whether the picture was made in good fun is irrelevant. It was a ridiculous idea that was bound to upset a lot of people. It's baffling that nobody involved in the picture -- from the photographers to the players -- even seemed to consider that this ad would be looked at negatively. Did it not occur to somebody that it might not be a good idea to mock an entire continent before the world's largest athletic competition that, by the way, happens to take place on that continent. Were they not aware of an invention called "the Internet" that allows pictures taken in Spain to be transmitted all over the world for the eyes of everyone? And now that the inevitable controversy has hit, they're still defending themselves when a simple, "the ad was in poor taste, we apologize" would have sufficed. This story would be slowing down if the Spanish Basketball team had apologized immediately. Now it's just picking up steam. The Organization of Chinese-Americans has released multiple statements condemning the picture. George Wu, deputy director of the group, said, "it is unfortunate that this type of imagery would rear its head during something that is supposed to be a time of world unity." Response in Beijing has been muted so far. Madrid is thought to be one of the frontrunners to land the 2016 Summer Games (the site will be announced next year). Could this controversy hurt Spain's chances of landing another Olympics? Interestingly, the Spanish basketball team took on China tonight, winning 85-75 in overtime. No word on whether Pau Gasol was on the receiving end of any elbows from Yao Ming. The Chinese crowd did have a message for the Spaniards though, booing vigorously during the game.

Chapter 15 part 1 - MARATHON 9/15 I was at my locker putting my books and stuff away when Josh and Mark walked up. "Hey lil sis. How was your first 3 periods?" Josh asked. "Math is boring. English was okay. I had that class with Joe and science was really boring. I met 2 new nice people. How about you two?" I asked. "It was okay. I had music, math and then art." Josh said. I nodded and Mark spoke up. "I had music, phys. Ed, and then math." Mark said. "I see. Well come on, I'm hungry. You guys want to eat with me and my 2 new friends?" I asked. "Sure why not." Josh said and we headed to the cafeteria. Josh, Mark and I made our way to the lunch line. I bought salad, Mark bought pizza and Josh got a hamburger. I saw Haley and David sitting at a table on the other side of the room. We walked over to them and sat down. "Haley, David these are my 2 brothers, Josh and Mark." They exchanged hello's and we started talking. "Ugh, where is he?" Haley said. "Where is who?" I asked. "One of our friends. He was supposed to be here 5 minutes ago." Haley said. "I bet he got another detention." David pointed out. "Ugh, I hate detentions. I haven't gotten one yet, but I'm sure I probably will by the end of the day." I said. You see, I'm kind of hoping that the more we don’t speak and pretend to "dislike" each other, I won't develop any more feelings I already have for him. That's why when Ryan asked me out for Friday Night I said yes. I thought that he could be a good distraction. Keeping my feelings away from Nick. So when I saw him walking towards where we were sitting at, I kind of panicked a little. I guess he didn't notice me because he sat right across from me and began eating. "Dude, hungry much?" Josh teased. Nick looked up and saw me automatically. I put my head down and just picked at my food. "Everyone, this is Nick. Nick this is-" Haley started to introduce us but that wasn’t really necessary so Nick interrupted her. "We already know each other. They moved in next door to me." Nick said. "Oh, cool. I just walked around the upper level of the school, looking around and thinking. I found a door that said "Garden". I opened it and there was a staircase that led somewhere upstairs. I walked up and found a beautiful setting. There was a balcony and flowers everywhere(THINK HSM PEOPLE!!). I walked over to the balcony and looked out. I started thinking about things, when someone appeared beside me. I looked to my side and there he was. Tall, brown curly hair. Nick. I looked down at my hands. Why must he appear every time I think about him? It just makes everything harder. "Maryanne...About that little argument. It was pointless and stupid and I'm sorry." He said. Crap. He apologized. I didn't want him to because that was going to make me do something I didn’t want to. But I did it anyway. "Nick, I accept your apology. I really do, but-" I started. "But what?"
