The Cosmic Lounge presents Acid Jazz Music: Dixon's 'Late Night' mix of 'Harmony' by Atjazz. "Martin Iveson moved from the North-East of England to the Midlands city of Derby in 1991 to take a position as in-house musician for the then fledgling video games company that went on to produce the Tomb Raider series of games. Not content with sound tracking one of the world's biggest computer games, Martin's passion for music saw him set up his own studio and record label, from which he could give a free rein to his personal music aspirations. Martin became Atjazz and Mantis Recordings' first release was his Story EP. The positive reactions to Story inspired his debut album That Something, which was released in 1998, and established the Atjazz name, going on to be licensed in Italy by Irma Records and Japan by Sony. Mantis Recordings moved onwards building a solid catalogue of releases from mainly local artists, and the Atjazz albums Labfunk and Labresults followed. While tracks on his debut album hinted at a particular Atjazz sound, it was these following albums that cemented his reputation as a world class producer with a distinctive yet diverse method to his sound, and making him an in demand producer, remixer and DJ. For Mantis he played a big role in the sound of Brooks debut album You, Me & Us, produced the album That Day for Magic Number, and works closely with Mantis' jerkbeat master Clyde. His vast studio knowledge isn't limited to just dirty disco, techno soul and hip hop beats either; he's turned his hand to twiddling the knobs for everyone from acoustic soloists to post hardcore indie rockers. His brand new album Full Circle sees Atjazz working with many superb artists. Peter Wraight, who played a big part of the sound of Labfunk brings his skill and knowledge once again, while singers Ernesto, Clara Hill, Sarah-Jane Morris, Dawne B, Amalia, and Mr J all deliver stunning performances, plus there's some mighty word wielding from Cee Rock and Hernandez. Superproducer Charles Webster is also joining forces with Atjazz, on a project called Version. They already have several remixes in the bag and a EP's coming soon for both Miso and Mantis. While for Jazzanova's prolific Sonar Kollektiv label, Atjazz has produced songs for the new Clara Hill album, and released the massive track For Real on their sub label Innervisions. A busy man indeed, and there's plenty more coming from his studio in the shape of a collaborations album which will see Atjazz hooking up with some big guns of house music." http://www.last.fm/music/Atjazz

The Cosmic Lounge presents Acid Jazz Music: 'Love Is Here To Stay' by Aqua Bassino. "Edinburgh's Jason Robertson played bass for numerous jazz-funk bands before settling into the studio to focus on all things electronic. Settling on the Aqua Bassino moniker, he released his '96 debut EP, Swirl, on France's foremost electronic imprint, F Communications. Three more EPs followed (Deeper, Pools, and Waves) before Robertson released his '91 debut album, Beats 'n' Bobs. Skillfully blending elements of jazz, soul, and blues, the album features Scottish saxophonist Martin Kershaw, U.K. jazz singer of the year Niki King, and African diva Nahawa Doumbia, who has worked extensively with Frederic Galliano. "Baby C'Mon" was released as single in early '02 with remixes by deep house don Ron Trent and Detroit electro pioneer Soul Designer (Fabrice Lig). In his spare time, Robertson produces laid-back house and downtempo for Statra under his Jay Salino alias." http://www.last.fm/music/Aqua+Bassino

The Cosmic Lounge presents Acid Jazz Music: 'Bad Luck' by Rainer Trüby Trio. "Formerly of A Forest Mighty Black, DJ Rainer Trüby built his reputation as a connoisseur of music past and present at the Root Down club night in Freiburg, Germany. Once a month he spins an eclectic blend of traditional bossa nova, modern organic breakbeat, and future-leaning jazz to a packed crowd of beat-hungry clubbers and martini-sipping soul sophisticates. Trüby garnered a solid following for his impeccable skills behind the decks and the respect of pioneers such as Gilles Peterson, LTJ Bukem, and Peter Kruder (Kruder & Dorfmeister), the last of whom went so far as to dedicate a track to the budding German jock. "But hold on a sec, doesn't a trio require three musicians?" you holler. That's where Christian Prommer and Roland Appel come in. Best known for their jazz-driven drum and bass as Fauna Flash and their slinky mid-tempo beats as Voom:Voom (with Peter Kruder), the two teamed up with Trüby in the late '90s to create the Trio. Released on Compost, "A Go Go" and "Carajillo" became huge hits on the modern jazz and leftfield breaks scenes, raising the Trio's profile to astronomical heights. Following a slew of successful remixes for the likes of Peace Orchestra, Mr. Gone, Bobby Matos, and Frederic Galliano, !K7 Records asked the three to select and mix a DJ-KiCKS comp, putting them in the same league as Nightmares On Wax, Stereo MCs, DJ Cam, and Carl Craig. Originally released as a single, the Zero dB Remix of "Galicia" is featured on Compost 100 alongside some awesome jazz-house fusion from Kyoto Jazz Massive, Beanfield, Minus 8, and The Amalgamation Of Soundz." http://www.last.fm/music/Trüby+Trio

Update 9.feb In the video with Timbaland's response to Acidjazz Ripoff controversy Nepbaland says: "Yes, I delete racist comments, repetitive comments aka spam, idiotic comments, nonsense comments, etc..." He lies. He deletes practically all contradictory comments. No matter how polite or logical they are. He even leaves the blatant lies and misconceptions (he would call it nonsense comments). He is a liar and deserves no respect at all. Someone called "DieStimmeAusDemOff" has posted an alternative link of the same video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTvY3wZrHrQ Your comments won't be censored there. Update 8.feb 2007: Someone called Nepbaland has posted a video-response to this video, featuring an interview with Timbaland. Following quote is from the interview: It's from a video game idiot! [laughter] A freaking jerk! (Timbaland) When I posted my comment to the video posted by Nepbaland, it was removed. The comment said that Timbaland is clueless and that it was never used in videogame and that's just actual composition by Glenn Rune Gallefoss (you can read the rest of the info later in this text). Actually as it seems, Timbaland was trying to be insulting, not pretending to be clueless. I provide a link to the transcription of the stuff that Timbaland says in the interview. Most of this is showing the discrescpect and arrogance towards the original composer (2000) and later arranger (2002) of the original tune which Timbaland had falsely claimed as his. http://www.zxdemo.org/extra/timbaland_radio_transcript.txt Very sad indeed. -------------------------------------------- C64 demo released on 20. January 2007 by Chronic, featuring a music called AcidJazz.sid arranged by Glenn Rune Gallefoss (2002). The tune got sampled and used in Nelly Furtado's song "Do It" without permission. Original author of the music is Tempest (Janne Suni) who released the Acidjazzed Evening in 2000 at Assembly 2000 demoscene party in Finland. Glenn Rune Gallefoss made a cover of the tune in 2002 with permission of the original author. In 2005 GRG's version got first used in a mobile ringtone called BlockParty (produced by Timbaland) and later (2006) it was used in "Do it", Credits to "Do it" goes like this: Written by Nelly Furtado, Tim Mosely (Timbo) and Danja (Nate Hills). Produced by Timbaland and Danja. However the Acidjazz.sid music (which you are hearing in the video) was used without permission. You can download the demo here: http://noname.c64.org/csdb/release/?id=45786 Scrolltext goes like this: fo shizzel my nizzel! dis beda hip hop megastar timbaland bustin a cap in yo 8-bit asses!! i am tha rasta.man!! The Cosmic Lounge presents Acid Jazz Music: Bugz In The Attic's remix of 'Los Alamitos Latinfunklovesong' by Gene Harris. Requested by Wondahboy. "Gene Harris (September 1, 1933, Benton Harbor, Michigan -- January 16, 2000) was an American jazz pianist known for his warm sound and blues and gospel infused style. From 1956 to 1970, he played in The Three Sounds trio with bassist Andy Simpkins and drummer Bill Dowdy. He was mostly retired to Boise, Idaho when Ray Brown convinced him to go back on tour in the early 1980s. He played with the Ray Brown Trio and then led his own groups, recording mostly on Concord Records, until his death from kidney failure in 2000. Gene's Ode to Billy Joe is known as a jazz classic." http://www.last.fm/music/Gene+Harris

The Cosmic Lounge presents Acid Jazz Music: 'Being With U' by Basement Jaxx. "Basement Jaxx are a critically acclaimed English house music duo comprised of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe that rose to popularity in the late 1990s. Basement Jaxx started in Brixton, South London, UK in 1994, where they held a regular club night called Rooty, which would later become the name of their second artist album (Rooty). In addition to Rooty, their other albums include Kish Kash, Remedy, The Singles and Crazy Itch Radio. Kish Kash won the 2004 Grammy for best dance album and was their most critically acclaimed album for its innovative sound. They also won BRIT awards in 2002 and 2004, both for Best British Dance Act. In addition to their own work, Basement Jaxx have become in-demand remixers. Tracks such as 4 My People (which became a massive chart and club hit), Like I Love You and She Wants To Move have all had the Basement Jaxx remix treatment. In 2005, Basement Jaxx headlined the UK's Glastonbury festival as a replacement for Kylie Minogue. In 2006 they were support to Robbie Williams on Robbies "Close Encounters"-Tour. The production duo got their name from the location of the studio where they recorded their first EP - it was located in the basement of friends of Simon Ratcliffe. Recently the duo have written an exclusive piece of music to accompany a work of art they admired in the Tate Modern, who invited them to walk around the gallery and find a work of art that would inspire them to write a track. Karel Appellis Hip Hip Hoorah! ended up being the inspiring work. There are only two places in the world you can hear it - in the gallery or its official site." http://www.last.fm/music/Basement+Jaxx

The Cosmic Lounge presents Acid Jazz music: 'Manifest Destiny' by Jamiroquai. "After Jason "Jay" Kay (born Jason Cheetham) auditioned unsuccessfully to be the singer of the The Brand New Heavies, he decided to put together his own band. Jamiroquai's first single, When You Gonna Learn?, was released in 1992 on the Acid Jazz label. Following its success, Kay signed a £1,000,000 eight-album record deal with Sony BMG Music Entertainment. The band enjoys worldwide popularity and is the best-known member of the early-1990s London-based acid jazz movement, alongside groups such as Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, Galliano and Corduroy. Jamiroquai has since, however, moved in other musical directions. The band´s lead, Jay Kay, is a hat and car lover. During shows he always wears a hat, and he has lots of very expensive sports cars, like Ferrari. The name "Jamiroquai" is derived from the Native American Iroquois tribe, with which Kay has said he identifies philosophically, combined with 'Jam', as in musical jamming. Sam Smith (Backing Vocals) recently left the band and moved to Paris to get involved in some other projects." http://www.last.fm/music/Jamiroquai
