Amidst the noise and the crowds of Balintawak Market, two women silently sit on a wooden pushcart.
Unmindful of the stench from the rotten vegetables surrounding them, sisters Rina and Marilou call this place home. They have been living here for seven years, in the midst of the vegetable section, yet actually trapped in their own world.
Their mother Hilda, at 63, still walks around the market all day peddling watermelon so she can feed her daughters and three more grandchildren. Her life is a juggling act where she must bathe and feed her daughters and work in the marketplace.
The vendors around her witness this day after day and have asked Nanay Hilda to bring the girls for psychiatric care. But she is adamant that nothing is wrong with them and she is capable of caring for them till the day she dies. But recently Rina and Marilou's bellies have begun to swell and Nanay Hilda has been overwhelmed with worries about them.
