The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Absence Of One' by Recloose. "Recloose (nee Matt Chicoine) is a Detroit techno/nu jazz/broken beat/whatever-you-want-to-call-it artist. By now, everyone has heard the story about how he got his break, while working at Eastern Market Deli--so we won't repeat it here. He subsequently released some damn good records on Planet E. Around 2001, he moved from Detroit to New Zealand, and continues to make damn good music from there." http://www.last.fm/music/Recloose

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out!' by Bentley Rhythm Ace. "Bentley Rhythm Ace (BRA) is a band formed in birmingham, england in the late 1990s, by former members of the band Pop Will Eat Itself, with guest appearances by Milf, a member of indie band EMF. Their self-titled debut ('Bentley Rhythm Ace') was released in 1997 and spawned the hugely popular single 'Bentley's Gonna Sort You Out'. A second album, 'For Your Ears Only', was released in 2000 but was less popular. A further single 'Madam, Your Carriage Awaits' was released. The group also compiled a 2CD 'FSUK' compilation (FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 1); FSUK 3 (Mixed by Bentley Rhythm Ace) (disc 2)). The name likely refers to the Rhythm Ace line of analogue drum machines manufactured by Ace Tone, some of which were rebranded and distributed by Bentley Pianos in the uk. The group epitomises the big beat era. Signed to skint records, they have enjoyed much commercial success with their music being used on television advertisements and with an enormous underground following. The group have all but split, playing the occasional low-key DJ set and have released no further material since 2000." http://www.last.fm/music/Bentley+Rhythm+Ace

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Until The Morning' by Thievery Corporation, feat. Emiliana Torrini. "Thievery Corporation is a Washington DC-based production and DJ duo consisting of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton and their supporting artists. Their music can be characterized as downtempo/electronica with influences of dub, acid jazz, indian classical and brazilian styles fused together with a lounge aesthetic. Thievery Corporation is on the Eighteenth Street Lounge record label named after the swank DC club owned by Eric Hilton, but several of their singles and EP's appear on the 4AD and !K7 labels. In 2002, they released The Richest Man in Babylon on their ESL label. This fifteen track album is similar in sound and timbre to The Mirror Conspiracy and features performances by vocalists Emiliana Torrini, Pam Bricker, and LouLou. Indra, the third track from The Mirror Conspiracy, was featured in the opening shots of The West Wing season five episode Gaza and in an MTV(India) promo for the programme Non Stop Hits. The group also received support from Scrubs star, Zach Braff, when Braff used the title track on 'Lebanese Blonde (1998) on the soundtrack of his film Garden State. This resulted in boosted sales for the group after the film's release." http://www.last.fm/music/Thievery+Corporation

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Sunrise On Fujiyama' by Lemongrass. "Roland Voss, aka Lemongrass, moved through several musical phases before hitting his stride as a drum'n'bass/downtempo producer in the late '90s. The German-born Voss began taking drum lessons in 1974, and played with a variety of funk and (mostly) jazz ensembles over the rest of the decade. When the '80s arrived, Voss became interested in new wave, and from there began experimenting with electronic means of sound production. During the second half of the '80s, Voss founded a number of projects -- mostly dance groups, but also a punk band called Klappstuhl -- and landed in a Berlin band called New Nations, where he began working in earnest with electronic instruments and sampling techniques. Voss eventually released his first album, 1993's breakbeat-oriented Wuwei, under the alias Succa V, and soon began working with drummer Torsten Kötter as Jungle-Moon; their first release in 1994 marked Voss' first full-fledged venture into jungle. Voss spent the mid-'90s working on large-scale multimedia projects with a variety of other artists. He made his debut as Lemongrass in 1997 with a drum'n'bass cover of Gershwin's "Summertime," which appeared on the small German label Incoming's Submerged compilation. The first Lemongrass full-length, Dramatic Universe, followed in 1998, and found Voss mixing his early jazz influences into a variety of jungle and haunting trip-hop productions. The album's reception -- particularly warm in France -- landed Voss a deal with Mole Listening Pearls, and his label debut, Lumière Obscure, was issued soon after in 1999. The single "Comme Toujours" became something of a club hit, and Voss followed it up with 2000's otherworldly Voyage au Centre de la Terre. Continuing his fast-paced release schedule, the fourth Lemongrass album, Windows, was released in early 2001 and re-released two years later by Water Music." http://www.last.fm/music/Lemongrass

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Dive Into You' by Hefner. "Hefner were a British indie pop and "urban folk" band fronted by Darren Hayman. They were active from about 1996 until 2002; since then they have played together only once, for a tribute to the DJ John Peel, who was a strong supporter of theirs. Hefner began as a live band in 1995 and, after several line up changes, became a solo project of Darren Hayman. In 1996 he recorded a tape for Sticky Records (named The Devotion Chamber) on which all instruments were played by Darren himself. His friend from art school, Antony Harding, assisted, providing backing vocals. The band's first release was in April of 1997 when the 7" single "A Better Friend" was released by Boogle Wonderland. The single featured Antony on drums and John Morrison (from Rhatigan) on bass. Shortly after the release, the record label Too Pure offered a record deal to Darren, who extended the offer to Antony and John. After a few more singles, Hefner recorded their debut album Breaking God's Heart. A lo fidelity album primarily recorded in one take, Hayman has declared that this album is the one he is least interested in listening to, due to its unrealized potential. The Fidelity Wars would be their next record (with the recent addition of multi-instrumentalist Jack Hayter); a darker collection of songs. In the official website of the band Darren has explained that all of the songs gravitate around the concept of breaking up. Hefner had, at this point, recorded a large number of singles and EPs. Boxing Hefner collected some of those tracks that had not appeared on the previous albums, often as new recordings. The compilation also included some unreleased material. We Love the City marked a change in direction for the band. In contrast with previous records, which had older songs, all of the compositions on We Love the City were made for this record, which had better production value and more varied instrumentation. Dead Media, released in 2001, continues the interest that Hefner had shown in exploring new ways. Dead Media is certainly different from previous records in the sense of its electronic weight, an interest that led Darren to eventually create The French. After the band's final gig at the ICA in London on 10 December 2001 and the release of an EP called The Hefner Brain the following March, the band went on a seemingly permanent hiatus, save for one reformation for the "Keeping It Peel" tribute show, marking the death of one of their biggest supporters, Radio 1 DJ John Peel. In 2005 a t-shirt was released that read "Hefner, Britain's Largest Small Band (1997-2002)", and in an interview Darren Hayman said "no, no reunion planned".[1] In 2005, after a legal dispute between Darren Hayman and Too Pure, the rights to all the band's Too Pure recordings have reverted to Darren. As a result, he has released The Best of Hefner 1996-2002 (on Fortune & Glory) and Catfight (Cargo), a 2 CD collection of 43 unreleased songs, both in 2006. The full recording of Hefner's special live Peel Session performance from 23rd August 2000 in the eight piece We Love the City formation (amelia fletcher and a horn section - part of which appeared as a limited bonus disc with some copies of the CD of We Love the City) has been released under the title of Maida Vale in November 2006. All of the band's albums will also be reissued with bonus tracks." http://www.last.fm/music/Hefner

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'Before The Summertime' by Airlock. "In 1998, Musicom, (a three piece from Brussels consisting of Pierre Mussche, Ernst Meinrath and Renaud Charlier), began crafting tracks of cool electronic ambience mixed with orchestral hip-hop, as soundtracks for adverts and underground films. Scottish born Esra Tasasiz was working in Brussels at that time writing and composing songs with various Brussels based artists. She joined Musicom and the four decided to work together on recording a short piece of music. It was during these sessions that it soon became obvious that their creative output worked outside the confines of cinematography and Airlock were formed. The production of their first album 'Drystar' stretched over a period of two-and-a-half-years. During this time Airlock met with cult film director Oliver Van Hoofstadt and wrote some tracks in conjunction with the making of three of his films - Keo, Snuff Movie, and Parabellum. 'Face Down' the composition that appeared on Parabellum, finally made its way via European radio stations to the desks of British record labels as part of a demo. After being spoilt for choice, they signed up with One Little Indian on which 'Drystar' was released in 2001. The connection between Airlock and films was kept alive with their work on Roman Coppola's the "Making of" of CQ. Furthermore, many tracks from 'Drystar' were used in films and series such as "CSI", "CSI Miami", "As If", "Model Behaviour", "5 go dating", and more. Airlock began work on their second album. The album was completed in October however, before they had played the album to anybody, all of the masters were destroyed in a studio fire. Airlock had to re-record the entire album! Whilst the studio was being rebuilt, the band decided to write some new songs for the album and worked in an improvised studio with minimal equipment. Though they had to change their working habits by that (the band considered this as a positive challenge), it also gave them the opportunity to concentrate more on the writing itself. The new album 'Symptomatic' has elements of tension, naivety, strength, conviction, vulnerability and freedom. Compared to their debut with its various musical directions, 'Symptomatic' is more coherent. There are less instrumental tracks and warm sounds of analog synths are used on all tracks. The content of the album however, deals with a mixture of emotions, experiences and expressions (or symptoms...) resulting from the issues Airlock had to face." http://www.last.fm/music/Airlock

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 2 Banks Of 4's remix of 'You've Gotta Have Freedom' by Build An Ark. "Two Banks of Four are Dillip Harris and Robert Gallagher. One djs on Sunday night and learnt his trade in New York, the other mcees on Saturday night and is still wondering why he never learnt a trade. They both live in London. They both are involved in various musical projects. They have both been on walks around the capital to make recordings of trains, the river police, and people shouting. Neither have now, or at any time, have been members of the conservative party. Both have worn clarks. Only one rides a bike but the other has a single speed fancy number. They both have copies of Doug and Jean Carnes "power and the glory" but only one was given a copy of "black renaissance" (by one of the okino brothers). One shaves his head, the other does not. Both went to dub basket east to mix the record with the Pheasants. One eats a good cold noodles for dinner (when atsko is cooking), the other likes to reduce his sauce till ready. They both have various names and have a record coming out on red egyptian jazz. Though neither make jazz music, one has a photograph of himself on top of a train in india as the sun is rising. The other may well buy a velour tracksuit from Ridley Road market." http://www.last.fm/music/2+Banks+Of+4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxXnSSZYXR0 A chilled smooth Trip-Hop Track (Fusion) which was produced 2003 by Zwieback and me to extreme Balisong / Butterfly knife manipulation with some easy video art (I experimented with some filters) so edited that it looks cool. A few ring tricks in between are not that clean performed but I did not remove them because of the video effects, others are. Watch out for my DVD when it is finished and buy it of course ;) Used Knifes: BM 40 TR (trainer). recorded and edited in September 2007 Balian Fabisong Youtube and the rest of the organisation can suck my dick for manipulating down everything and so on, I only upload that here because I don`t have my own thing till now. I will always do what I want like and think is correckt nomatter what will happen until I die. If you do what I do you have to live with extreme unpleasant byeffects, I don`t hope that this is usual but in my case everybody trys to get on my nervs and so on. I recommend you to disable comments from the beginning on and to disable messages and so on but don`t know if that will help. Best is to make your own homepage I think and to realize that youtube exists mostly to piss people (99,99 % of the people simulate that they piss them too), viewnumbers and everything else are manipulated. But do what you want if you can`t let it be and don`t let you manipulate too much. At all I don´t know what to do and do what I want.

The Cosmic Lounge presents Trip-Hop Music: 'It Could Be Sweet' by Portishead. "Portishead is a band from Bristol, England, named after the small coastal town of Portishead ('Pore-tiss-hed'), 12 miles west of Bristol. With their use of live jazz samples and intentionally lo-fi sound, the band has been cited as influential by many modern musicians including guitarist Wes Borland, Hip-Hop star Kanye West, Evanescence and underground producer DJ DangerMouse. The band was formed in 1991, by keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow and singer Beth Gibbons. Barrow had previously worked with two other bands from Bristol, Massive Attack and Tricky, and decided to name his new endeavour after his hometown. After releasing a short film (To Kill A Dead Man) and its accompanying music, Portishead signed a record deal with Go! Beat and their first album, Dummy, was released in 1994, and featured heavy contributions from guitarist Adrian Utley. In spite of the band's media-shyness, the album gained universal critical acclaim and was successful on both sides of the Atlantic, spawning two hit singles, "Glory Box" and "Sour Times". The album won the British Mercury Music Prize in 1995 beating albums such as 'Definitely Maybe' by Oasis and Leftfield's 'Leftism'. Portishead has often been used as accompanying music in the media. Such examples include car adverts, Channel 4 intermissions and the teenage drama series Sugar Rush. Their second album, Portishead, was released in 1997, and featured the single "All Mine". A live album featuring new orchestral arrangements of the group's songs was recorded primarily at Roseland in New York City, and released in 1998 with a DVD of the concert soon following. 1999 saw a cooperation with singer Tom Jones for a track on his album Reload. There have been rumours of a third album to be published, possibly called Alien, but no such record has been released, and Portishead's official site dismisses the rumours: "We have noticed that there is some confusion on an album release called "Alien". Please be aware that this is NOT a Portishead release. The band are in the studio working on new material now but no release dates are scheduled as yet. Keep an eye on the site as any release plans will of course be announced here first!" Portishead official site news. As of May 2007, no new album has been released. There is another so-called Portishead album circulating called 'Pearl', but this is actually an album by Mandalay. In December 2007 Portishead hosted the ATP (Nightmare before christmas party). Portishead played there live on both nights of the festival. Their set included 4 new tracks from their upcoming new album. The new tracks sound very different from Portisheads previously released work. Their new sound is faster and more rock influenced. Video registrations of Portishead ATP performance can be found on youtube. Other artists Portishead invited for ATP included Aphex Twin and Massive Attack Portishead did show the first signs that their third album was progressing by posting two new tracks on their myspace page in August 2006. However these were subsequently dismissed by Geoff Barrow as 'doodles'. On October 18, 2006 Geoff Barrow confirmed that a third album was currently being recorded. Also, in the summer of 2006 Portishead covered Serge Gainsbourg's "Un Jour Comme Un Autre" ("Requiem for Anna") on the tribute album entitled Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited. Oddly, Beth Gibbons' vocal performance sounds nothing like her previous Portishead contributions. In February 2005 the band appeared live for the first time in seven years at the Tsunami Benefit Concert in Bristol. Also in 2005, Utley and Barrow produced The Coral's The Invisible Invasion. Barrow along with Utley, Clive Deamer and John Baggott also assisted with the production of Stephanie McKay's McKay album in 2003 under the Go!Beat label. Utley also contributed to the Black Cherry album by Goldfrapp. Gibbons has also collaborated on a separate solo project with Paul Webb, aka Rustin' Man. In October 2002, the album, Out of Season, was released in the UK, and in October 2003 it was released in the U.S. Portishead and other so-called trip hop groups have expressed dislike for the term, arguing it is a media invention designed to categorize their otherwise not-so-categorizable music. The long awaited third album simply titled 'Third' is scheduled for an April 2008 release date. The band is also planning a European tour and will play on various Festivals and will be headlining the 2nd day of Coachella 2008. The album Third was leaked on P2P networks on March 7th 2008. First new single from this album will be "Machine gun"." http://www.last.fm/music/Portishead
