I am not a very experienced builder, but I am trying to tackle a rather sophisticated and miniaturized kit developed by Steven Weber in New Hampshire. You can see more about it if you google ATS-3. If you are patient, you can get your own. The first part of the video is before heating the board with a Hobby Lobby heat embossing tool with the board sitting on a common coffee cup heater. The second half of the video is AFTER heating and flowing the solder paste. Note the solder bridges on the smallest of the ICs--which I didn't have luck wicking, so I scraped it open between the pins. (Knock on wood.) A laser Transceiver at 650nm 461 THz. Uses K3PGP front-end with a 741 audio amp. Laser modulator was also inspired by K3PGP however is not the same. Distance was a half kilometer (494 Meters estimated). Audio is spliced from the tests. The Equipment was for a science project. We won Grand prize at regional and are now heading to the International Science and Engineering Fair A Note on the Legality of the transmission of music over light. It is fully legal to transmit music over light because it is unlicensed spectrum. All frequencies above 275GHz (which includes light) are allocated to amateur operators. ***However in Part 97 from the FCC no amateur may transmit music for any reason on any band (including light)*** So to make the distinction, when this equipment is used for amateur purposes it must follow Part 97 rules (things such as identifying every 10minutes, no profanity, no music etc.). When it is being used as an unlicensed device it can pretty much transmit anything so long as it does not go against any other US or State law (or the jurisdiction of where ever you happen to be). A Side Note: I attempt to follow every rule set out in Part 97 and deplore those who don't (just take a listen to 80m some times). But we are not breaking any Part 97 rules if our intentions change to unlicensed (only on this band). I never curse on the air, there's no need to. Ham radio and such things are fun. Why get upset? PS: I know I spelled won wrong at the end. I was tired and didn't catch it

This is a fine little CW rig. It did a great job for me in "sweeping" the SKCC 1st Anniversary event (incl KL7 & KH6), running 20 watts to a 100' wire antenna. However, I think I'm going to sell it (and other stuff) to finance a K3. Oh well, I will have this video to remember it by...

Icom IC-7200 HF/6m ruggedized transceiver at the 2008 Dayton Hamvention

this is the homebrew transceiver. its made all from discrete components. The only IC is the LM386-N. The Xtal ladder filter is 11.150Mhz the VFO is wide covered 4 to 5 Mhz. I cant lock on any frequency, because my tuning method is very crude at the moment and. also the bfo is slightly not on the right frequency. check also my recent homebrew transceivers.
