Northbound Metra Electric 316 pulls out of the Stony Island station at 71st St., headed toward Hyde Park and downtown. Two minutes later, outbound 315 rounds the curve and pulls into the station.
Metra's only electrified rail line was formerly the Illinois Central's commuter line.
The 71st Street line is a branch of the main line, which runs from downtown Chicago to the south suburb of University Park.
Its stations were briefly the only ones in the Metra rail system with turnstiles, until a revolt by Metra Electric passengers prompted their removal.
The people who live in that apartment building on the north side of 71st St. must have permanent tinnitus.
