(June 27)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] The company that sold the foam blamed for fueling a nightclub fire in Rhode Island has agreed to pay more than six million dollars to settle lawsuits from both survivors and victims' relatives. The agreement by American Foam Corporation brings the total settlements connected to the fire to more than 150 million dollars. It was February 2003, when this massive fire started at 'The Station' nightclub in Warwick Rhode Island during a performance by the band Great White. Pyrotechnics --set off by the band -- set the foam on fire, and the flames quickly spread. 100 people died in the blaze -- more than 200 were injured.Club owners Jeffrey and Michael Derderian pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter charges. Michael Derderian will be free on parole next year from his four-year prison sentence. Jeffrey Derderian received a suspended sentence. They claim they never knew that the foam -- which experts say burns like gasoline -- was flammable. This foam settlement is not final and no money has been paid to the victims. Since Annapolis, Israel has issued over 17,000 new tenders for housing units in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. The Palestinians say this is a policy that destroys any prospect of peace and renders establishing a viable Palestinian state impossible. Israel's Prime Minister is courting new controversy by approving the building of nearly 900 new homes in occupied East Jerusalem. Many Palestinians are fighting to keep their land, and one farmer, Mohamed Elian, in Bethlehem has made it a life-time commitment from his cave. For almost 4 decades, he has lived in a cave in his land in the village of Wad Fukeen to make sure his land is not lost to the expanding Israeli settlement nearby. Al Jazeera's Nour Odeh visited Mohamed Elian and filed this report.

University officials have come under fire for the so-called "watered-down" way they notified people about the danger on campus. Some of the attorneys say a more detailed warning may have persuaded more students and faculty members to stay put. Sueng Hui Cho (sung-wee joh) killed 32 people and wounded 2 dozen others before turning the gun on himself. Under the settlement...the families of at least 28 of those killed will receive 100 thousand dollars.Seriously injured victims will have their health care needs covered for life, and they're eligible for some financial compensation.One attorney says it's the best deal the families could have hoped for considering Virginia's liability laws...which caps rewards in those cases at 100 thousand dollars.By agreeing to the proposal.... families are also giving up their right to sue Virginia Tech...the state and local governments. They will...however...be given several meetings with the governor and university officials to discuss the mass shootings and changes on campus since then.Two families have opted out of settlement, and they're planning to file separate lawsuits.

Today in the national headlines: An initial settlement was reached for the massive oil spill in San Francisco, plus do we really have the first RAY GUN? Hi everyone and welcome to get the daily.com. I'm Andrea Rene and I've got a look at some top national stories. It was announced yesterday that the city of San Francisco will receive $2 million dollars for damage caused by a 54,000 gallon oil spill from last November. The 2 million is only the inital payment from Hudson Marine Managment Services and will help cover the cost of the crash of their 900 foot cargo ship, the Cosco Busan. The ship sideswiped the Bay Bridge and dumped thousands of gallons of oil into the water, devasting beaches and killing thousands of birds. No word yet on when the settlement will be finalized or for how much. Last night on 60 minutes the Pentagon debuted one of its newest weapons, straight from a sci-fi series, its the RAY GUN. I know it sounds cool but apparently it feels pretty HOT. The gun blasts a 100,000 watt beam of light into anything in its path, but it doesn't kill, or even permanently injure anyone. Instead, volunteers who stood in from of the gun said it feels like scalding hot water is being thrown on you. Sounds painful to me! BUt when you step out of the beam, the pain is instantly gone. The Pentagon hopes to use this weapon for crowd control in Iraq and as a defense weapon on Embassy for riots like the one in Belgrade last week. But the problem is, the Defense department isn't really giving any funding to this new weapon, because, insiders say, it doesn't kill anything!
