Say what you want about Bob Schieffer, in my opinion he is one of the last honest Washington journalists we have left. They should have left the man as anchor on the CBS News, he's far and away superior to Katie Couric. And, this may be as close to a Walter Cronkite moment that we are going to get in this campaign. Bob nails the ridiculous question by George and Charlie at the Philly debate.

Bob Schieffer has received virtually every award in broadcast journalism, but the greatest honor was bestowed upon him in March 2005 when his alma mater, Texas Christian University, created the Schieffer School of Journalism. Schieffer anchored the CBS Evening News from March 10, 2005 to August 31, 2006, an 18 month period that saw a substantial increase in viewers. Prior to that, Schieffer covered Washington for CBS News for more than 30 years and has served as the moderator of Face the Nation, CBS News' Sunday public affairs broadcast, since 1991. He is also CBS News' chief Washington correspondent. In this clip, Schieffer tells the story of his favorite scoop at the White House. I don't think I've ever seen a talk show host like Bob Schieffer try to contain himself and not laugh at his guest. Rep. Lahood, who was on to deflect criticism for Hastert's handling of the Foley scandal, listed three other Republican scandals as a defense that Denny is doing a heck of a job.

Possibly the worst network news on-air debacle ever for an evening newscast. Listen as the show producer shouts to Schieffer to 'start with section two, start with section 2' then slams a door closed. The black air you see is just the way it aired!

This video is from 7/17/05 Crooks and Liars sez Bob wanted to know why Bush never demanded to know who the leakers were. I think we have the answer today. Digby sez: "I see that Bob Schieffer takes the president to task for not just hauling in his top aides two years ago and telling them he wanted to know who talked to the press. This is a good question and one which I think the press should be asking every day. But then, Bush has always been a little cagey on this, hasn't he? Why you'd almost think he already knew all about it."
