Clarence Carter attended the Alabama School for the Blind in Talladega, Alabama, and Alabama State College in Montgomery, graduating in August 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. His professional music career began with friend Calvin Scott, signing to the Fairlane Records label to release "I Wanna Dance But I Don't Know How" the following year. After the 1962 release of "I Don't Know (School Girl)," Carter and Scott left Fairlane Records for Duke Records, renaming themselves the CL Boys for their label debut, "Hey." In all, the duo cut four Duke singles, none of them generating more than a shrug at radio. In 1965, they travelled to Rick Hall's FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals to record "Step by Step" and its flip side, "Rooster Knees and Rice."[2] Atlantic Records took notice and released "Step by Step" on its Atco Records subsidiary, but it flopped. In 1966, Carter and Scott and group were in an automobile accident that left Scott injured. Carter continued as a solo act, signing to the Fame Records label for 1967's "Tell Daddy," which inspired Etta James' response record, "Tell Mama." Several more solid singles followed, until Carter released "Slip Away," which hit number 6 on the Pop Charts. "Too Weak to Fight" hit number 13. Several more soul singles followed, like "Snatching It Back," "At The Dark End of the Street," "The Feeling Is Right," "Doing Our Thing" and "Patches." "Patches", (first recorded by Chairmen of the Board), was a UK number 2 and a US number 4 in 1970, and was nominated for a Grammy in 1972. I was born and raised down in Alabama On a farm way back up in the woods I was so ragged that folks used to call me Patches Papa used to tease me about it 'Cause deep down inside he was hurt 'Cause he'd done all he could My papa was a great old man I can see him with a shovel in his hands, see Education he never had He did wonders when the times got bad The little money from the crops he raised Barely paid the bills we made For, life had kick him down to the ground When he tried to get up Life would kick him back down One day Papa called me to his dyin' bed Put his hands on my shoulders And in his tears he said He said, Patches I'm dependin' on you, son To pull the family through My son, it's all left up to you Two days later Papa passed away, and I became a man that day So I told Mama I was gonna quit school, but She said that was Daddy's strictest rule So ev'ry mornin' 'fore I went to school I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too Sometimes I felt that I couldn't go on I wanted to leave, just run away from home But I would remember what my daddy said With tears in his eyes on his dyin' bed He said, Patches I'm dependin' on you, son I tried to do my best It's up to you to do the rest Then one day a strong rain came And washed all the crops away And at the age of 13 I thought I was carryin' the weight of the Whole world on my shoulders And you know, Mama knew What I was goin' through, 'cause Ev'ry day I had to work the fields 'Cause that's the only way we got our meals You see, I was the oldest of the family And ev'rybody else depended on me Ev'ry night I heard my Mama pray Lord, give him the strength to face another day So years have passed and all the kids are grown The angels took Mama to a brand new home Lord knows, people, I shedded tears But my daddy's voice kept me through the years Sing Patches, I'm dependin' on you, son To pull the family through My son, it's all left up to you Oh, I can still hear Papa's voice sayin' Patches, I'm dependin' on you, son I've tried to do my best It's up to you to do the rest I can still hear Papa, what he said Patches...

This video is (sort of)a tutorial to re-create some famous bass sounds using the B1/B1X bass effects pedal. Included sounds are: -Sleepless (King Crimson) -One of these days (Pink Floyd) -Anesthesia (Metallica) -In the Silent Wings of Freedom (Yes) I'm a fan of Tony Levin, Cliff Burton, Roger Waters and Chris Squire. If you want to emulate the sound of these players and have this FX pedal, or if you are considering to buy it, this is the video for you :-)

A recent report from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices warns about the dangers of misprescribing fentanyl transdermal patches, such as Duragesic. ISMP reminds practitioners that these patches are intended only for patients who are opioid-tolerant, and should not be used for acute pain. ISMP also pointed out other prescribing errors. In some cases, deaths occurred in patients who were prescribed multiple fentanyl patches, resulting in overdose. In other cases the fentanyl was prescribed in addition to other pain medications, such as oxycodone, or it was prescribed for patients with pre-existing respiratory compromise. ISMP points out that sometimes pharmacists have dispensed these prescriptions without questioning them, and nurses have applied the patches without recognizing the prescribing error. Here are some of ISMP's recommendations to help avoid these tragic and preventable errors: • Prescribe fentanyl patches only for patients who are opioid tolerant, and who have chronic pain that is not well-controlled with shorter-acting analgesics. These patches should not be used for postoperative pain, or for pain that's short-term or intermittent. Pharmacists should ensure that the patient is opioid-tolerant and suffering from chronic pain before dispensing the drug, and should question the prescriber if this is not the case. • Set dosing limits. For example, pharmacy computer systems could be set to flash an alert if more than 25 mcg per hour has been prescribed as a first-time dose. Also, in evaluating whether the dose is appropriate, take into account other opiates or analgesics that may have been prescribed. • Educate practitioners and patients to know the signs of overdose, which include respiratory distress, shallow breathing, fatigue, sleepiness, confusion, dizziness and fainting. • Prescribing errors are not the only cause of deaths and injuries from fentanyl patches. They also occur when patients mis-use the patches. Sometimes patients and family members do not understand that heat can increase absorption of the drug to dangerous levels. So patients should be told to avoid heating pads, electric blankets or hot baths while the patch is in place, and let their doctors know if they develop a temperature above 102 degrees. • There have also been cases where children found used patches in the trash and applied them to their own bodies, and died as a result. And so patients should be warned to dispose of the patches by folding them in half and flushing them down the toilet. Sunday February 24th, 2008 Live from Laughlin First hour guest Tim Crawford reported from the International UFO Conference in Laughlin, Nevada. He said that the nine-day event was attracting people from all over the world and that the schedule of events included a wide array of speakers along with the "EBE Film Festival" to crown the best UFO film of the year. Describing the scene at the conference, Crawford called the attendees "regular folks you wouldn't mind hanging out with at a barbecue." Black Ops Patches and Torture Taxis Artist, writer, and experimental geographer Trevor Paglen joined host George Knapp (email) to discuss his research into black ops programs and CIA-sponsored "Torture Taxis." He noted the symbology of patches associated with military black ops programs and shared information he has deciphered from his vast collection of hard to find pieces. Calling the patches "glimpses into the black world," Paglen revealed that many of them serve as "inside jokes" used by members of the secret programs. To this point, he cited the use of the invisible-at-will cartoon character Pete's Dragon on patches used by early Stealth pilots. Other interesting symbols included "five stars in one" to signify an Area 51 program and an alien head for space-based operations. Turning towards his other areas of research, Paglen talked about his investigation into CIA operated extraordinary rendition programs. He said that Guantanamo Bay is just "the visible part of this much broader network" and detailed the means by which the CIA conducts these programs. He also covered his travels to Afghanistan to find purported secret prisons like the "Salt Pit" and the "Dark Prison," a facility described as pitch black with blaring music and Halloween noises playing constantly.

In this video I'm playing some guitar with the Zoom G1X. All patches in the video are created by me. The guitar is a Squier Stratocaster and the amps are really made for CD-players, but they are working fine in the output of the Zoom. The sounds/patches are: 1. Totally Clean. (No Pedal Assign.) 2. Fat Fuzz. (Pedal Assigned to Pitch Bend, 2 octaves down.) 3. Phine Phaser. (Pedal Assigned to Gain.) 4. What Wah? (Pedal Assigned to Wah.) 5. Clean Wah. (Pedal Assigned to Wah.) 6. Synth Dist. (Pedal Assigned to Delay.) 7. Hall Tremolo. (Pedal Assigned to Volume.) 8. Volume Sweller. (Pedal Assigned to Phaser Rate.) 9. Dangerous Dist. (Pedal Assigned to Pitch Bend, 1 octave up.) 10. StepTrem. (Pedal Assigned to Step Rate.) Most of the stuff is improvised, but some are own songs and some are other songs. Enjoy!
