This is a video that I shot in April of 2 different orphanages in Ukraine. My church, Valley Bible Church, (in Pleasanton, CA, USA)is looking in to building an orphanage in Ukraine. The state-run orphanages are in a horrible state, lacking food, clothes, and even beds for many of the children. It was a really humbling and sobering experience.

This is a short video slide show of The Children of the Light Orphanage in La Ceiba, Honduras. On July 2nd-July 11th, 2007, the 19 individuals pictured in the photos traveled to Honduras and spent time with the 22 Orphans in the project. Los Ninos de la Luz, or the Children of the Light, is located in a reserved section of La Ceiba, Honduras. It was founded by Bill Kwiatkowski in 1994 and currently houses 22 boys who would be otherwise homeless. There are aggressive plans to build a new residence hall to house an additional 40 boys. The Children of the Light (COTL) will provide the Honduran children with an alternative to life off the streets, showing by way of words and deeds the love, mercy and compassion of God. The many boys have all be rescued from various forms of abuse and homelessness. The COTL see drug addiction as a significant problem in Honduras and one of it's goals is to help the children of Honduras resist the temptation of drugs and care for the already addicted. One method COTL will use to reach this goal is to provide a clean and safe haven for the children to go as an alternative to living on the streets. By providing shelter, food and spiritual guidance , we hope to provide a family atmosphere where children can live and receive an education through the attention and love of caring workers. We visited the Catholic Orphanage outside of Cam Ranh in the winter of 2005. On the way there, we stopped to look at the fishermen in Cam Ranh Bay. Signs of flooding were everywhere; the only birds we came upon were the ducks at the orphanage, due to the avian flu outbreak. The children and the nuns at the orphanage were welcoming and warm.

Volunteer Cameroon Abroad Buea Orphanage HIV Programs Cameroon is a safe Central African Republic bordered to the west by the Gulf of Guinea. One of the most diverse countries in Africa, Cameroon is often referred to as "Africa in miniature?. Cameroon has everything you would expect from the African continent; tropical rainforests, deserted golden beaches, great expanses of desert, vast lakes and savannah, and volcanic mountains in-between. Compared with other African countries, Cameroon enjoys political and social stability. Nevertheless, large numbers of Cameroonians live in poverty as subsistence farmers. The unemployment rate is high and those who are employed perform mostly agricultural tasks. The HIV/AID crises have hit hard especially the children, many of whom lack proper healthcare. Cameroon has one of the highest school attendance rates in Africa. Although attendance rates are high, there is a shortage of teacher leaving schools chronically understaffed. Cameroon is having two seasons that is the rainy and dry season; the rainy season runs from March to September while the dry season runs from October to February. The major spoken languages are still English and French but a multitude of more than 200 ethnic languages are also in circulation, with various tribes populating the country. Our programs are located in Buea and the surrounding rural towns where English is predominately spoken. The nearest airport from our head office is Douala International, about an hour drive from Buea. All participants should book their flights to Douala Airport.
