A few years ago I watched the film "Rain" (1929) by Dutch filmmaker Joris Ivens. I loved this simple and elegant non-narrative film and the stories that it seemed to tell in images alone.
I put this piece together from weather images that I had taken. It differs from Ivens' film, mainly in the use of sound, but the inspiration came from his masterpiece. The video of the rain with the umbrellaed people was taken in Amsterdam with the explicit purpose of paying him homage.
Music: Chopin, Nocturne No. 20 in C sharp minor op. posth. performed by Jean and Ginette Neveu.
Images from Elizabethtown, Auburn (Hurricane Ivan), various places in Colorado, Amsterdam, and Liechtenstein.
