News coverage of the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew from WCIX channel 6 in Miami Florida.
August 24, 1992. The news is anchored by John Hambrick and Barbara Sloan. Ms. Sloan was a fixture at WCIX at the time and Mr. Hambrick formerly anchored at WTVJ in Miami and at stations in New York and Cleveland.
The station was knocked off the air via channel 6 because their channel 6 transmitter was destroyed during the hurricane but WCIX continued broadcasting on cable and on its UHF repeater station in Ft. Lauderdale. At that time, they broadcast to the northern part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale market via channel 27 because they were required to place their Channel 6 transmitter far south of Miami to avoid interference with the channel 6 based in Orlando.
After the hurricane, WCIX broadcasted over their own Channel 27, via cable and their newscasts were seen on (then) independent station WDZL channel 39 until the transmitter was rebuilt.
