Legendary vocalist Ian Gillan, has decided to re-visit the classic songs made famous by Deep Purple and his own solo career on his new release Gillan's Inn. Ian invited several of his friends to guest on the album including Joe Elliot (Def Leppard), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), guitarist Joe Satriani, Janick Gers (Iron Maiden), Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions), Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls), Ronnie James Dio (Dio), Steve Morse, Jeff Healey and the rest of Deep Purple. We caught up with Gillan to talk about the recording of Gillan's Inn and having an amazing list of musicians help out on the project.

Ian Gillan is considered to be the greatest rock vocalist of all time, with the highest vocal range. He could hit 2 notes more than Freddie Mercury (Queen) and 3 notes more, than Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin). Gillan was in his best during 70's and 80's years. And now, in the 21th century he remains to be one of the greatest from modern vocalists. Although Gillan is now in his 60´s he can still hit some pretty decent hjigh notes. Lots of notes around E5-F#5 here and a E5 followed by a G5 in the last clip (Smoke), great stuff! Ian Gillan together with Robert Plant started the high screaming of heavy metal. Plant uses a mix between chest and head voice while Gillan uses his famous falsetto. Plant sang melody lines well above high C (C5) and thus can be labelled a high tenor while Gillan never did that, I say he´s a low tenor/high baritone (Heldentenor perhaps). On to the clips: 1st clip: a A2 from Jesus Christ Superstar, "Poor Jerusalem". 2nd clip: a G2 from unknown source. 3rd clip: two D2:s from "No more cane on the brazos". 4th clip: a very powerful F#5 from "strange kind of woman" off "made in Japan". 5th clip: primal scream with a G#5, this one could be with mixed chest and head. 6th clip: the famous A5 and G5 from "Child in time". 7th clip: great high notes, F#5, G5 and two B5:s, from "fighting man".
