Opposition leaders, monks and villagers took part in a somber ceremony. Today is the 33rd anniversary of the day the Khmer Rouge started their regime in the capital's infamous killing fields. The 33rd anniversary of "Year Zero," when the Khmer Rouge's brutal rule in Cambodia began, has been marked by criticism because of the slow process to prosecute the group's leaders. Opposition leader Sam Rainsy criticizes the government for the long delay of the trial. He told mourners not to forget the killing fields and urged the tribunal to prosecute the former Khmer Rouge leaders. [Sam Rainsy, Opposition Leader]: "We must never forget this day and we ask the Khmer Rouge tribunal with the participation of the United Nation to prosecute the former Khmer Rouge leaders in an effective way so as to bring justice to the victims of the Khmer Rouge and their families." No Khmer Rouge leader has ever faced trial. During the rule, an estimated 1.7 million people died of starvation, forced labor... and many were executed. Survivors of the genocide want justice to be served. [Yeng Phai, Khmer Rouge Regime Survivor]: "I want the tribunal to prosecute the Khmer Rouge leaders soon so that I know how they tortured and killed my children and husband. I want the tribunal to punish them the same as when they killed the victims." A U.N.-backed court recently unveiled a proposal to extend the long-awaited tribunal's three-year life span by two years and drag out the proceedings until 2011.

Holy shit. It's been over a year since this has been up and I'm quite surprised people are still watching it. And there were a couple of things I already knew what was going to happen once I posted it on youtube and it was this, that a lot of people would watch it, a lot of people will like it, and a lot of people will despise it. Personally, I don't care what people think of this video. I didn't make this video to insult or anger those who follow our rich customs. I didn't make it to get famous or recognized. I only made this video for my Khmer language class because I like making movies and it got me out of doing a writing assignment. It was just something fun to do with my friends. I made this video and I tagged it as "Cambodian" so the only way people found it were either Cambodian or really really bored. So I'm amazed really, how some people could have something so far up their asses that they believe I made this video to humiliate the heritage that our parents and ancestors are proud of. But are we so proud a race that we can't humble ourselves long enough to find humor in the things we do? Are we so proud that we can laugh at the expense of everyone else except our own? No, we're not. Our race is no better nor worse than any others that share this planet with us. And if you truly believe otherwise, consider this. Didn't Adolf Hitler, who believed his race was superior, kill off those he believed were inferior? And if you tell yourself, "I'm not like Hitler, I'd never do anything like that." To this I say to you, an entire war started because one man thought he was better than another. And to everyone else who talk this wild shit about Cambodians blah blah this, blah blah that, keep talking because no one's listening. I don't know how brave a person has to be to type on the keyboard, hiding behind a monitor. Or maybe you're the type of person that can't seem to get it up unless you randomly start shit just to get people riled up. Hey don't go to youtube for that, go to viagara.com. Call a doctor if you stay erect past 6 hours. To all the people who supported me and actually understood what my intentions were, I thank you, I really do. You guys know how to live. Vietnamese Associations were in these areas had procreated many children with the indigenous minorities.... Vietnamese migrants lived here, total numbers were about 350,000 from villages to others like the villages of Kaneukanghot, Phnom Vay Chap, Phnom Sampeou to the Kvak, along the bank of Kvak in Battambang. The Kvak was a big base of secret Yuon soldiers. Ong Thouy, a Yuon political commander-in-chief, and under-Commander Ta Chich and Nguyen Son, the chief of Army to Battambang, Siemreap, Kompong Thom since the French colonial period. Nguyen Son, knows Khmer, Siamese and French, was ordained as a Buddhist monk and was a witch. And then Yuon Vietminh formed a puppet organization "Khmer-Vietminh" as hands-legs to control our Khmer country. Thap Ngieng, was the general of Army, Khmer-Vietminh, to Battambang, Siemreap, Kompong Thom since the French colonial period, positioned in the village of Khnachromeas. We would like to tell that Thap Ngieng, the leader of Khmer-Vietminh, who appointed Pol Pot (Salot Sar) to be in charge of 3000 men in 1957. At that time, Thap Ngieng ordered Tea Banh (the present minister of national defence) who was the secret messenger to guide 60 men to study the Army's technics in Laos for helping Vietnamese attack Laos during Laos was having unrest of coup d'etat.

They owned the hundreds of buses that ferried Cambodia's population throughout the kingdom, just as they owned the cylopouse they rented out to impoverished Cambodians in Phnom Penh. They were restaurateurs, shopkeepers, traditional doctors and pharmacists, barbers and cinema owners. If there was a commercial opportunity, they seized it. Not all were successful, and there were ethnic Chinese coolies working on the Phnom Penh wharves alongside Cambodians. But with their commitment to education as a key to advancement and their embrace of an entrepreneurial work ethnic shared by few Cambodians, the Chinese population of Phnom Penh provided the commercial drive for Cambodia's capital city. Although he was not ready to place his country under Southeast Asian treaty organization's protection, he did accept a US offer to establish a military aid and assistance group (MAAG in Cambodia that would finance and equip his army. But, seeking to cover his bets and accepting the advice of Zhou Enlai during the Bandung meeting, Sihanouk refused to have his army trained by the United State. Instead he entrusted training responsibilities to the French. Capitalizing on his newly discovered oratorical skills; he made full use of the freedom from kingly restrains to carry his arguments to his people. His message was simple-a vote for the Sangkum was a vote for his policies. The appeal of 'the prince who had been king' was immense. But the overwhelming result suggests that allegations of ballot box stuffing and of voting papers disappearing before being counted were valid. Only days before the election, a band of Sangkum supporters led by Sam Sary disrupted a Democrat rally being addressed by one of their leaders, the left-inclined teacher Keng Vannsak. In the melee that followed a Democrat worker was killed and Vannsak was thrown into prison. The cost of opposition was made very clear. Beyond Cambodia, Sihanouk looked to United Nations as the institution through which his country's point of view could be brought to world attention. He had attended the 1958 general assembly, but it was at the fifteenth general assembly in 1960 that he made the greatest impact. His account of his visit, published after his return from New York, is one of the purest distillations of Sihanouk's views on world leaders and the policies that they followed on their countries' behalf. Describing his experiences in New York, the prince was mocking, outraged, malicious and falsely humble. As a bravura example of Sihanouk's reaction to the conduct of international affairs, his account is worth noting at some length. The behavior of the representatives of the great powers at the general assembly reinforced prejudice already well established in his mind. The contrast between the favored treatments accorded the leaders of major states and that which he and his delegation received in New York strengthened Sihanouk's view that the United States simply did not regard Cambodia as important. Although the meeting appears to have been relatively amicable in tone, Eisenhower failed to give a firm and positive response to Sihanouk's request for additional US funding for the Cambodian armed forces. The prince's feeling that the western powers did not take him or his country seriously was then further reinforced by a contretemps with the British delegation at the general assembly. Making clear that he was speaking about Thailand, Sihanouk told his listeners that he knew of a plan to overthrow him and to change Cambodia's foreign policy to alignment with the United States. If, as he claims, Sihanouk's knowledge of such a plot came from warnings given to him by the French and Chinese embassies as well as his own security services, they had still not implicated Sam Sary. When further evidence reached Sihanouk a week alter, Sary had already fled. After a shadowy existence in exile, he disappeared in 1962, probably put to death by one or another of his foreign paymasters. In his account of the affair given to Wilfred Burchett, Sihanouk provides considerable detail of plans being made Thai and South Vietnamese officials, in concert with Son Ngoc Thanh and with the knowledge of CIA agents, to overthrow him. But more recently presented evidence, cited by David Chandler, suggests that the catalyst for action was a decision made by President Diem of South Vietnam and his brother, the sinister Ngo Dinh Nhu. Using their representative in Phnom Penh as their intermediary, the Diems were ready to finance and assist Dap Chhuon in bringing down Sihanouk. But if the South Vietnamese leaders took the imitative in promoting the planned coup, they were quickly joined by the Thais and by the CIA. The undoubted involvement of the CIA has been seized on by Sihanouk, and others, as proof that the whole affair was masterminded by the United States.

Kampuchea 1975 - Pol Pot declares 'Year Zero' and directs a ruthless program to "purify" Cambodian society of capitalism, Western culture, religion and all foreign influences in favour of an isolated and totally self-sufficient Maoist agrarian state. No opposition is tolerated. Khmer Rouge records from the Tuol Sleng interrogation and detention centre in Phnom Penh (also known as S-21) show that 14,499 "antiparty elements", including men women and children, are tortured and executed from 1975 to the first six months of 1978. Only seven of those detained at the centre will leave it alive. Terror and paranoia reign, reaching a climax in 1977 and 1978 when Pol Pot launches a bloody purge against the "hidden enemies, burrowing from within" and the Khmer Rouge cadres turn on themselves. At least 200,000 are executed. Between one and three million Cambodians, or about one quarter of the country's entire population of about seven million, died during the three years, eight months and 20 days of Pol Pot's reign of terror. On a per capita basis the Khmer Rouge "revolution" is easily the deadliest in modern Asian history.

Cambodia's international donors are not using their influence effectively: • International donors annually provide approximately US$600 million per year in aid to Cambodia. This is equivalent to half the national budget. • Donors have not used the leverage that this aid gives them effectively. Specifically, they have refused to acknowledge the fact that the government is thoroughly corrupt and does not act in the best interests of the population. • As a result, billions of dollars-worth of aid funded by western taxpayers have done relatively little to improve the lives of ordinary Cambodians. • Moreover, donor support has failed to produce reforms that would make the government more accountable to its citizens. Instead, the government is successfully exploiting international aid as a source of political legitimacy. This is the problems when you are an elected government, first and for most the people did not permit any officials to commits any unlawful acts toward the citizen or deprive them in any way. But one think I'm for sure is that the government is the head of the state which work for the people not shoot them down. But Cambodia doesn't have a real government what they have is Yuon government who plundered Cambodia environment at the expense of Hun Sen donation.

MANY of Khmer/Cambodian victims, who are living in the Western Countries happily, peacefully and harmoniously, whose human rights are well-protected, bitterly are misled to hate each other, especially to hate Pol Potists and his Khmer Rouge (not Yuon Rouge) in their guts. Pol Pot had to shoulder all the bitterest blames from all eight directions. Many people in the world always say that Pol Pot was a coward when he and his Khmer Rouge were busy fighting against the Vietnamese troops' occupation and invasion of Cambodia. But when the right time came up in 1997/98, Pol Pot had appeared on every channels of the world to clearly confess about what he did in the past from 1975-1979.
