The Opera of Cheo is a dramatic genre with deep popular roots. Traditionally, cheo was composed orally by anonymous authors. Today's playwrights compose cheo operas along traditional lines. The characters in the plays sing time-tested popular melodies with words suited to modern circumstances. At present Cheo opera is an integral part of Vietnamese theatre and is well liked by people in both the country and in towns, and by foreign spectators as well. The buffoon is a common character in Cheo opera, in which there is often a blend of the tragic and the comic. He speaks the language of the people and shoots shafts of satire at evil-doers, such as ignorant witchdoctors, greedy landlords, or arrogant mandarins. He may wear a short coat, the garment of the commoner or a long robe, an article of clothing favoured by members of the upper classes in the old society. A couple of buffoons may appear on stage, including the master in a flowing gown and his servant in a short coat and carrying a stick, each speaking the language and behaving the ways of his class. The buffoon might make his entry right at the beginning of a play, carrying a torch or a megaphone and provoking wild laughter from the audience.

José "Cheo" Feliciano was born on 3 July, 1935 and took his first formal steps into the field of music as a student Free Music School in his native Ponce, Puerto Rico. At the age of 17, he moved with his family to New York where he began his professional career as a percussionist with a band known as "Ciro Rimac's Review". His years recording under the Fania label produced hits such as "Juguete", "Salomé", "Los entierros de mi gente pobre" y "Juan Albañil". His works were also featured in the first salsa opera "Hommy". In the 80's, Feliciano launched his own independent record production company: Coche Records. At the start of the 90's he completed several important projects including two albums with the Rondalla Venezolana and his work in Cuba, where he edited the CD recording: "Cheo en Cuba". At the end of 1999, Feliciano edited a well-reviewed production entitled "Una voz, Mil Recuerdos". In that work, Feliciano paid homage to music figures such as Tito Rodríguez, Ismael Rivera, Frankie Ruíz, Mon Rivera, Gilberto Monroig and Santitos Colón, among others. The album was picked as one of the twenty best of 1999 by the National Foundation for Popular Culture, for songs such Camionero.

Song: Cheo Eum Keu Cha Ri E Artist: Lee Bo Ram ENJ0Y! :) _English Lyrics: Come now inside my heart, you're telling me about love I pray that this isn't a dream My heart keeps telling me that I shouldn't let go of you And that I should be greedy... it's saying stuff that's stupid Your love that came accidently... it wasn't strange at all But I didn't know that our promised relationship would become love... Sometime later, I have to send you away... but I don't have the confidence to do that You found the place that I was alone at... now you're gonna go back I knew it was going to happen, but why does my heart hurt Now you're gonna go back to your place because you found the love you wanted I have to send you, a happy person, away with a smile You tell me about love while lookin into my eyes, but it's a lightly passing by small love I'm so happy right now, it's like I'm dreaming a dream Now you know that from the beginning we were in love You found the place that I was alone at... Now you're gonna go back I knew it was going to happen, but why does my heart hurt Now you're gonna go back to your place because you found the love you wanted I need to send you, a happy person, away with a smile Can't you give me your love, is it Impossible? But now I love you so much...
