In 1980 Janne Schaffer paired up with the comedians Lasse Åberg and Klasse Möllberg to form a session band called Electric Banana Band to produce music for the wildly popular children tv show Trazan och Banarne. Janne wrote the music and Lasse the lyrics and they made a number of hits during the early 80s, for example this one called Zwampen / the fungus. There is some name confusion, the tv show is Zvampen, the song is Zwampen but few seem to be aware of the difference and most people just refer to it by the chorus line.
The catchy riff repeats throughout the song. The lyrics are surrealistic, crazy, twisted and nursery rhyme and immediately stuck in people's minds no matter their age. The chorus lyrics starts:
Jag vill bo i en svamp ------------ I want to live in a fungus
annars får jag kramp -------------- or I'll be seized with cramp
Det finns hopp för min kropp -- There's hope for my body
i en mullig sopp -------------------- in a plump boletus
The annotated lyrics compromises with the meaning in order to achieve better rhymes.
