Dream Chant is improve sound harmonizing and contrasting spontaneously, sometimes with other music. Here, just for my tuning into the spirit of Ravi Shankar, we both being in old age, I take inspiration and add a maybe soul level from myself to the music and what it evokes in us.
Ravi Shankar's brother, Uday Shankar, much older, was an amazingly exquisit dancer who performed in America. I got to see him.
Ravi Shankar had the reputation of playing the extroverted fancy stuff for American audiences, but in the classic Indian tradition the raga is for the musician to express a mood, the inner soul response to an outer situation like early evening in time of day.
So through the Indian soul raga we touch inner aspects of transcendence, and that is its purpose. The Beatles were pop stars but created music that I call young soul. Thus did India influence the West.
My own chant efforts are better called shamanic, my own tradition as a dreamworker using nature's energies, the Senoi aspect of the Jungian-Senoi Dreamwork approach as illustrated in my classic Jungian-Senoi Dreamwork Manual, coming out again in later 2008.
